Convicted Felon Facing Charges After Shooting Himself In The Foot In Bratt, Tossing Gun, ECSO Says

April 9, 2024

A convicted felon is facing charges after shooting himself in the foot at a home in Bratt and then tossing the gun, according to authorities.

Austin Lane Mosley, 28, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and destruction of evidence.

On January 16, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting victim at a home in the 6000 block of Morton Road. That’s where they found Mosley in the living room with a gunshot wound to his right foot.

He first told deputies that he had been shot by someone before running to his mother’s residence where he told her to call 911. He would not describe the firearm or how and where the incident occurred, according to an arrest report. He later told deputies that the shooting happened at Travis Nelson Park on Highway 4 before saying it occurred at Still Bridge before changing his story to state it happened in the backyard, the report states.

His mother told deputies Morris was on the phone arguing with a woman in the backyard and told her that he would kill himself before she heard a gunshot, the report states.

Mosley was transported to Baptist Hospital for treatment.

Deputies searched Travis Nelson Park and the area of Still Bridge but were unable to locate a firearm.

The ECSO said Mosley eventually admitted to shooting himself in the foot before throwing away the firearm to prevent it from being collected as evidence.

Mosley was also charged with aggravated battery when the offender knew or should have known that the victim was pregnant for allegedly slapping his girlfriend across the face in February at a residence on Hecker Road in Century.

Mosley remained in the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning with bond set at $22,500.

FHP: Woman Fired Rifle At Vehicles During I-10 Eclipse Shooting Spree

April 8, 2024

Monday afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol Troopers responded to a report of an active shooter on I-10 in Holmes County. The suspect was reportedly a female who had recently checked out of a local hotel and told the staff she was going on a shooting spree, directed by “God” in relation to the solar eclipse.

The suspect, driving a purple Dodge Challenger with Georgia plates, entered Interstate 10 (I-10) at the 112-mile marker and traveled westbound.

Within five miles of entering the interstate, the suspect fired multiple shots into another vehicle traveling along the interstate, striking the passing car multiple times. FHP said.

The driver was struck by glass fragments from the window and grazed on the arm by a bullet; however, he was able to steer his vehicle onto the shoulder of the road, away from the suspect.

Continuing westbound on I-10, the suspect shot at another vehicle near the 107- mile marker, hitting the driver in the neck. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was receiving treatment.

Responding Troopers located the suspect near the 96- mile marker and conducted a felony traffic stop. After the suspect was taken into custody, troopers recovered an AR-15 and a 9mm handgun within the purple Challenger.

The suspect, identified as Taylon Nichelle Celestine, 22, of Georgia, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Holmes County Jail where she was booked for attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and improper discharge of firearm

Te Florida Highway Patrol Bureau of Investigations and Intelligence (BCII) is conducting the investigation, which is ongoing. Further details will be released when available.

Click here for the official North Escambia area weather forecast.

Today will be the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044.

Even though we will not experience totality, it is not safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection for solar viewing. Viewing any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury. When watching the partial phases of the solar eclipse directly with your eyes, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the sun.
