Wine, Wilson Homer As Tate Varsity And JV Beat Navarre

Tate 10, Navarre 5 (Varsity)

The Tate Lady Aggies defeated Navarre 10-5 Tuesday in Navarre.

Kate Balagbagan earned the win for Tate, giving up four runs and seven hits in five innings while striking out three and walking two. Jordan Smith pitched two innings in relief, surrendering two hits and one run while striking out two and walking one.

Kara Wine had a solo home run in the top of the third for the Aggies as she drove in three runs on the night, as did Kaylie Mitchell.  Lacy Wilson was 3-5. Amburleigh Laird and Peyton Womack each had multiple hits.

Wines ’s bomb was the sixth for her this season.

The Lady Aggies will be at Crestview Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Tate 11, Navarre 0 (JV)

In junior varsity action, Tate shut out Navarre 11-0 Tuesday night. Peryton Wilson assisted in the win with her first homerun.

On April 16, the JV Lady Aggies will be at West Florida High.

Blue Wahoos, Biscuits Rained Out in Montgomery; Ice Flyers Playoff Postponed

Blue Wahoos

Wednesday’s game between the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium was postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up as part of a 7-inning doubleheader on Saturday, with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT. Game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the end of the first game.

The Blue Wahoos continue their series in Montgomery against the Biscuits on Thursday. First pitch from Riverwalk Stadium is scheduled for 6:35.

Ice Flyers

The Pensacola Ice Flyers round one SPHL playoff game against the Peoria Rivermen Wednesday was postponed due to weather until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Pensacola Bay Center.

Wind Damage Reported Near Pine Forest High School

April 10, 2024

Wind damage was reported Wednesday afternoon in Escambia County. Multiple trees and utility line were reported down in the area of Pine Forest High School, closing the intersection.

A tree reportedly fell on a mobile home at the nearby Pine Forest Mobile Home Park.

Power outages were reported in the area.

A tornado warning was in effect at the time of the damage. The National Weather Service will work to determine if the damage was caused by a tornado or just strong winds.

So far, there have been no reports of any serious injuries.

Escambia County Schools were closed Wednesday, so there were no issues at nearby Pine Forest High School, Longleaf Elementary and George Stone Technical College.

A wind advisory remains in effect, but the tornado watch has been canceled.

This Afternoon: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. High near 74. Windy, with a southeast wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 60. Windy, with a southeast wind 20 to 25 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. West wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

One Injured In Highway 29 Crash

One person was injured in a crash that slowed Wednesday morning commute traffic on Highway 29 in Cantonment.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Highway 29 near Cedar Tree Lane. Escambia County EMS transported one person to an area hospital.

The crash closed northbound Highway 29.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Escambia Fire Rescue also responded.

Cantonment Woman Charged With Grand Theft Of $125K U-Haul Truck

A Cantonment woman is facing felony charges after allegedly failing to return a U-Haul truck worth $125,000 that she rented in 2021.

Jennifer Lee Barnes, 40, was charged with failure to redeliver a hired vehicle and grand theft of a motor vehicle. She remained in the Escambia County Jail Tuesday morning with bond set at $25,500.

On May 17, 2021, Barnes allegedly rented a 26-foot 2018 Ford F650 U-Haul truck for one day from Eagle Riders Motorcycle on North W Street.

By January 2022, the truck was reported stolen, and Barnes was recently arrested on outstanding warrants.

No School Today For Escambia, Florida; Early Dismissals in Escambia, Alabama, and Santa Rosa

All Escambia County (FL) public schools and district offices will be closed today, and all extra-curricular activities are canceled, due to the threat of possible severe weather.

The National Weather Service forecasts severe weather moving through the area midday Wednesday, bringing with it the potential for high winds in certain portions of the county which could impact bus travel, , and bring severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and flash flooding. In an abundance of caution, all schools and district offices will be closed and all extra-curricular activities canceled.

“We anticipate normal district operations will resume on Thursday, April 11,” stated Superintendent Keith Leonard. “Of course, we’ll continue to work closely with local emergency operations officials to determine what is safest for our families and staff.”

Santa Rosa County school will follow an early release schedule on Wednesday. Community Schools Latchkey/After-School Programs and all extracurricular activities, to include practices, games, and events, have been canceled for Wednesday evening. It is anticipated that schools will be in session on Thursday, April 11.

All Escambia County schools in Alabama will be released at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. All extra-curricular activities including games and practices will be cancelled or rescheduled.

Avery Stuckey Three Run Homer Helps Lift Northview 6-0 Over Choctaw

The Northview Lady Chiefs shut out Choctaw 6-0 Tuesday night in Fort Walton Beach.

The game was scoreless in the eighth inning. Avery Stuckey had a three run-homer to centerfield for the Chiefs, and Bailey Burkette was 3-4 including a three run single.

Jamison Gilman started the game in the circle for the Northview Chiefs, giving up one hit and no runs in three innings, striking out four and walking none. Mikayla went for four innings of scoreless ball in relief, surrendering two hits, striking out one and walking one.

The Lady Chiefs will travel to Milton at 6 p.m. Friday.

Escambia, ECUA, Molino Utilities, Pensacola Offices Closing Early Due To Weather

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

Escambia County offices will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, due to potential severe weather. Essential employees such as first responders will remain available.

Offices closing at 1 p.m. include:

  • Escambia County Board of County Commissioners - all departments
  • West Florida Public Libraries - all locations
  • Escambia County Tax Collector - all offices
    • Lines will close by 12:30 p.m. for transactions to be completed by 1 p.m.
  • Escambia County Supervisor of Elections
  • Escambia County Extension Services
  • The Clerk of the Court and Comptroller - all offices

Exceptions:

  • The Perdido Landfill will remain open with regular operating hours.
  • The Escambia County Property Appraiser’s offices in downtown Pensacola and Molino will close at noon.
  • Escambia County Area Transit administrative offices and customer service are closed. Regular service is suspended and will resume Thursday, April 11.
  • The Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare will not open today.

MOLINO UTILITIES

Molino Utilities will be closing at 1 p.m. on April 10, due to the weather.  They will extending the late date by one day to April 11 at  4:30 p.m.

COURT SYSTEM

The Escambia and Santa Rosa County courthouses will close at 1 p.m. today due to the incoming severe weather.

ECUA

ECUA Customer Service and business offices will close at 1:00 p.m. today in advance of anticipated inclement weather and will re-open on Thursday, April 11 at 8:00 a.m. The Customer Service office opens at 8:30 a.m.​

All Sanitation collections scheduled for today, Wednesday, April 10, will be halted at 1:00 p.m.  Any routes not completed today will be completed tomorrow, and so on for the rest of the week until Saturday, if necessary, to ensure that all weekly collections are caught up.

PENSACOLA

City of Pensacola offices and facilities will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, due to anticipated hazardous weather conditions. Essential departments including Pensacola Fire Department and Pensacola Police Department will remain available.

  • Pensacola International Airport will remain open. Please check with airlines about potential flight delays. Pensacola International Airport Administration Offices will be closed.

City Sanitation Services
