Alton Gilmore

Alton Gilmore of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on February 29, 2024. He was born on March 19, 1931 in Byrneville, Florida to Joseph and Mary Armstrong Gilmore. He attended schools in Byrneville and Century Florida, joining the Army in 1952 and serving in Korea during the Korean War. When he returned home, he was hired at Chemstrand Corporation (later Monsanto) where he worked as a mechanic until his retirement in 1995. He resided in Pensacola for 50 years, moving to Blue Springs in 2005.

Survivors include his wife, Allene Pugh Gilmore, son, Dale (Debbie) Gilmore, daughter, Sue (Randy) Manning, 4 grandchildren, David (Kathy) Gilmore, Jo (Justin) Varnum, Dana Gilmore, all of Blue Springs and Jessica (Cory) Johnson of Stover, Mo. Ten great grandchildren, Simon Manning, Emma, Ethan, ErHui and Bo Gilmore, Brant and Brooks Varnum and Allie, Patty and SueElla Johnson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Harold (Doris) Gilmore, Hazel Bolen, Dewey Gilmore, Chester Gilmore, Edna (Jim) Forte and Lottie (Harold) Pugh.

Alton was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. He was a member of Colbern Road Restoration Church of Jesus Christ where he served as a deacon. He was a great handyman and there were not many things he couldn’t build or repair. He especially enjoyed family events, fishing, growing vegetables, and beekeeping.

Memorial service will be held at Colbern Road Restoration Church on April 7, 2024, at 6 pm. Inurnment will be March 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville, Missouri, with military honors.
