William Raymond Godwin

Mr. William Raymond Godwin, age 81, passed away, peacefully, surrounded by his family in Stockton, Alabama. He was a native of Bratt, FL; spent most his life in Little River with his beloved wife and the past 15 years in Bay Minette. He was a pipefitter in construction with 45 years of service.

Mr. Godwin enjoyed spending time with his family and going out to eat with them. He loved to travel and fish.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Clyde (Myrtle Ledkins) Godwin; his beloved wife of 60 years, June Godwin; three brothers, Jr. Godwin, Kenneth Godwin, and Douglas Godwin.

Mr. Godwin is survived by his two sons, Jason Godwin, of Bay Minette, AL; William S. (Tammy) Godwin, of Little River, AL; two sisters, Ellen Lowery, of Atmore, AL; Judy Godwin, of Stockton, AL; one grandchild Emily Godwin of Little River, AL; two great-grand-children Raiden Risher and Emma Risher.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC with Rev. Cornelius Phillips officiating

Burial will follow at Mamie’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 11:00 AM until service time at 12:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.

Phillip Burke Victor, Sr.

Mr. Phillip Burke Victor, Sr; age 78, passed away, Tuesday, February 13, 2024, in Flomaton, AL. He resided most of his life in McDavid, FL; and has lived the last five years in Flomaton, AL. He attended Byrneville Community Church. He worked as a carpenter for many years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved playing music with a harmonica. He enjoyed spending time with his family and coaching softball.

He is preceded in death by his father, Karl Paul Victor; mother, Sarah Lou Long; one son, Phillip Victor, Jr; one brother, Jimmy Victor; three sisters, Faye Victor, Kathy Barlow, Alice Merchant; and one grandson, Christian Blake Owens.

He is survived by his two daughters, Rachael (Keith) Johnston, of Flomaton, AL; Veronica Ann Nowling, of Pace, FL; two brothers, Donnie Victor, of Century, FL; Johnny Victor, of Atmore, AL; one sister, Janie Criswell, of McDavid, FL; five grandchildren, Colin Owens, Jared Nowling, Phillip Randolph, Dakota (Kota) Lee, Abigail Grace Owens; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held Monday, February 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Christian Home Cemetery with Bro. Fred Stallworth officiating.

Burial will follow at Christian Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 19, 2024, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Edgar Wallace Diamond Sr.

Edgar Wallace Diamond Sr., 86, of Flomaton, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024. He was born in Wallace, Florida on January 10, 1938, and was a long-time resident of Jay, Florida. He retired from Thompson Caterpillar Company. He loved his family and was a very nurturing soul to everyone he knew. He loved people. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Diamond Sr. and Cassie Diamond; his wife of more than fifty years, Darlene Janette Diamond; sisters, Dr. Burltine Karlen , and Dr. MaryCeila Findley; Brother, Guy Diamond Jr; Son, Eddie Diamond; son in laws, Jeffrey Slade, and Douglas Ard. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Beasley Diamond; daughters, Amanda Diamond Ard, and Mary Beth Diamond Slade; grandson, William Diamond; granddaughters, Ashley, Trinity, and Linda Slade, and great granddaughter, Miracle Slade.

He is also survived by his brothers, Marshall (Dorothy) Diamond, and James Diamond, daughter in law, Margaret Diamond Drummer and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special friends include Pam and Glen Gentry, and Glen and Debbie Fountain.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Smith and his staff at Jay Medical as well as the nurses and staff at Jay Hospital for the compassionate care they provided.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 3:00 PM in Cora Baptist Church with Pastor’s Bobby Carnley and Jonathan Hill officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church cemetery.

No Serious Injuries In North Highway 99 Crash

There were no serious injuried reported in a single vehicle wreck near Bratt Thursday afternoon.

The driveer of a sedan lost control and left the roadway on North  Highway 99 south of Breastworks Road abotu 1:30 p.m. The vehicle then struck a tree.

Two Found Murdered In Escambia County; ECSO Questioning Victims’ Grandson

UPDATE (3:29 PM): ECSO deputies have located the grandson and he has been taken into custody.

Two people were found murdered at a home in Escambia County Thursday afternoon. and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is looking to question the victims’ grandson.

Deputies responded to Greenbrier Boulevard near Sugar Creek Drive, just east of the intersection of Guidy Lane and East 10 Mile Road, about 12:40 p.m. and located a male and female deceased inside the residence.

“We are currently investigating this as a double homicide, and are looking to speak to the grandson, 24-year-old Jordon Dominique King. Please do not approach him, call law enforcement,” Sheriff Chip W. Simmons said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP or the ECSO at (850) 436-9620.

No additional information has been released as a homicide investigation continues.

Cellular Outage Impacts Customers Across U.S.

February 22, 2024

Cellular customers nationwide are reporting Thursday that their service is down, according to DownDetector.com and national reports.

“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them. We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored,” AT&T said in a statement.

“Verizon’s network is operating normally. Some customers experienced issues this morning when calling or texting with customers served by another carrier. We are continuing to monitor the situation,” Verizon said

“Our network is operating normally. Down Detector is likely reflecting challenges our customers were having attempting to connect to users on other networks,” T-Mobile said.

Residents in Escambia County who use AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, UScellular and Consumer Cellular may experience difficulty calling 9-1-1, the county said in a news release.

Residents are encouraged to use the following options to reach 9-1-1:

  • Use a landline, if available.
  • Try using another cell carrier, if available.
  • Use Wi-Fi calling, if possible.

High Speed Chase Ends With Car Crash On Molino Road (With Gallery)

A high speed chase ended with a crash on Molino Road Wednesday afternoon.

Florida Highway Patrol pursued a 2023 silver Audi S4 northbound on Highway 29 to Molino. The chase ended with a crash on Molino Road near Sunshine Hill Road about 2:45 p.m.

The incident began when an 18-year old from Wisconsin committed a hit and run crash on Highway 29 at Burgess Road, according to FHP Lt. Jason King, where trooper were invstigating a stolen car as a seperate incident. FHP sais troopers witnessed the crash.

As troopers attempted to catch up to the vehicle, a FHP aircraft followed it up Oleander Avenue to Palafaox to Highway 29. The vehicle traveled on and off I-10 twice to Nine Mile Road and Pinecone. During the pursuit, the Audi struck a vehicle on I-10, but there were no injuries.

The pursuit ended when troopers performed a PIT maneuver on Molino Road. King said the driver was taken into custody and was transported by Escambia County EMS to a local emergency room for evaluation.

A trooper reportedly crashed in the area of Sunshine Hill Road and Sunshine Hill Court during the pursuit but was not seriously injured.

Noel Almargo Petonquot,  18 of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, was charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated fleeing and eluding with injury or damage,  multiple counts of hit and run, driving while suspended or revoked and reckless driving.

Winning Fantasy 5 Ticket Worth Over $26,000 Sold At Nine Mile Road Publix

Someone is over $26,000 richer today after purchasing a winning Florida Lottery Fantasy 5 ticket at a Publix on Nine Mile Road.

The Quick Pick ticket sold at the Publix at the corner of Nine Mile Road and Pine Forest Road was one of two winning tickets in the February 20 midday drawing. The other winning ticket was sold in Sarasota.

The midday winning numbers were 4-20-25-26-28.

Northview FFA Celebrates National FFA Week With Breakfast

It’s National FFA week, and the Northview High School FFA celebrated with an appreciation breakfast.

Wednesday morning, the FFA officers and members prepared a homestyle breakfast for teachers, staff and invited guests that support the FFA program. Northview’s FFA program has been recognized as one of the top chapters in both the state and the nation.
