Cantonment Woman Charged With Battery Of Her Girlfriend, Burglary

Renea Michele Stackpole was charged with battery, burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, criminal mischief, forgery, uttering an altered instrument, and larceny.

Stackpole became involved in a verbal argument with her live-in girlfriend before pushing and choking her, according to an arrest report.

Stackpole is also accused of burglarizing a residence in December, stealing and later forging a check, $2,171 in cash and damaging a door in the process.

She remained in the Escambia County Jail without bond.

Social Security Benefits Increasing In 2024

Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for more than 71 million Americans will increase 3.2 percent in 2024, the Social Security Administration said. On average, Social Security retirement benefits will increase by more than $50 per month starting in January.

More than 66 million Social Security beneficiaries will see the 3.2 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) beginning in January 2024. Increased payments to approximately 7.5 million people receiving SSI began on December 29, 2023.

“Social Security and SSI benefits will increase in 2024, and this will help millions of people keep up with expenses,” said Kilolo Kijakazi, Acting Commissioner of Social Security.

Some other adjustments that take effect in January of each year are based on the increase in average wages. Based on that increase, the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax (taxable maximum) will increase to $168,600 from $160,200.

One Killed In New Year’s Day Perdido Key Crash Near The Flora-Bama

A 56-year old Bay Minette man was killed and two 23-year olds were seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning near the Flora-Bama on Perdido Key.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on Perdido Key Drive about 500 feet from the Alabama state line.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 23-year old struck a raised pedestrian crosswalk, causing him to lose control and hit a concrete utility pole. The 23-year old driver and a 23-year old passenger were seriously injured. A 56-year old male passenger was pronounced deceased.

FHP is asking any witnesses to call them at at *FHP or call Crime Stoppers.

Flomaton Counterfeit Cash Suspect Arrested For Florida Burglaries

A suspect wanted for passing counterfeit cash in Flomaton has been arrested in Escambia County, Florida.

The Flomaton Police Department said 40-year old Aaron Tyrone Madison of Centuy has warrants in Alabama for counterfeit bills, failure to appear, second degree criminal mischief, and first degree theft of property.

Madison was arrested Friday in Escambia County, Florida, on two counts of burglary, along with vehicle theft and second degree petit theft. Details on those charges were not immediately available.

Madison’s bond was set at $125,000 at the Escambia County (FL) Jail as he awaits extradition to Escambia County, Alabama.

2024 To Bring Lower Rates For FPL Customers

Florida Power and Light customers could will get some relief in 2024 due to declining fuel costs.

High gas prices in 2022 played a key role in driving up bills in 2023.

However, gas prices have subsided, resulting in utilities not having to collect as much from customers in 2024 to cover the tab.

FPL customers in Northwest Florida who use a benchmark of 1,000 kilowatt hours will pay $149.70 in January, down from the current $154.91. That bill will decrease to $143.06 in April after a storm-related charge ends.

, age 83 of Atmore, AL passed away on December 29, 2023 in Atmore, AL. He was born on August 8, 1940 in Gordo, AL to the late Hurdis and Bessie Mims Daniel. He served in the United States Navy. He was a retired Planner/Estimator for the Naval Air Station of Pensacola, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Paula Helton Daniel; Son, Chad Daniel; and siblings, Ted Daniel, David Daniel, Eleanor Bell, Dot Crawford, and John Daniel.

He is survived by his sons, Nathan Ray (Cyndi) Daniel of Bratt, FL, and Scott A (Susanne) Daniel of Mobile, AL; Daughter, Cyndi Daniel (Mike) Stacey of Atmore, AL; Sister, Margaret Jaye of Orange Beach; Grandchildren, Lauren Stacey, Blake Daniel, Dex Daniel, and Dalton Ray Daniel; great grandchildren Tazden Fay, Taven Fay and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on January 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson- Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with his nephew, Robby Jaye officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, AL.

Active pallbearers will be Blake Daniel, Dalton Daniel, Mike Ward, Don Jackson, Dex Daniel, and Greg Odom.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
