    I have to go along with all the comments. I do not travel the road often maybe four or five times a month, but and they should rename “97″ to “Highway to Hell”. My husband has actually asked me,”how fast are you going”, I am like 60 m.p.h., he said” drivers are passing us like you are doing 25″. Driving down 97, is so frightening. Looking out for Deer the entire ride,and the dangerous Humans! OMG Maybe, park an empty Police SUV, just sitting empty,that would help slow some down, if only for a time. If Officers could give out speeding tickets, it would be revenue of a substantial nature.

    I used to live in the city and the police that we city residents paid for through higher taxes would ticket us for going 6 mph over the speed limit, and for not coming to a complete stop. Unless county people are okay with this type of policing and higher taxes, then be careful what you ask for. I’m for it, but I bet most lifelong county residents are not. But if you’re only for people speeding just a little bit, then you’re just as guilty. You don’t get to decide how much speeding over the limit warrants a ticket. Speed doesn’t necessarily kill, it’s the differences of speed that kills, airplanes fly 500mph every day, and they’re not evil.

    To all ya’ll, I’ve talked to troopers & to deputies. I reached out to our fine upstanding representative Michelle Salzman & received an email from FHP which was a joke, some clown from public affairs. According to the troopers, they don’t come up here unless it’s investigate a wreck. FHP doesn’t have enough troopers on the payroll to cover Escambia Cty. ECSO does the best they can but they are for the most part handling crime & don’t have the time for traffic watch. No need to go to the county commissioner, he’s only interested in development & his office doesn’t answer the phone most of the time. Frankly there are no answers or solutions. It’s the states area of responsibility. FHP has to top heavy, to many sittin behind a desk that can & will find a reason why they “can’t” fulfill their responsibilities to the public.
    The conclusion: Keep your next of kin up info to date because they don’t care.

    @concerned
    I would wager at 70MPH for 2 miles on 97 would kill you or the one in front of you. No way an average of 80MPH
    60mphYES

    I used to live on this road, and I have family that still does. People act STUPID going down it, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost been rear ended pulling onto my families road. And if you don’t go at least 15 over they will RIDE your tail with brights on. Obviously there’s a problem on the road with how many wrecks there are in the span of a year, law enforcement needs to step up and do their job. Too many people die on this road.

    I live on 97 at Pilgram Hills. I can’t tell you how many wrecks I’ve seen from people getting rear ended making a turn into Pilgram Hills.
    People go way too fast. Some mush be done!!!!

    We also travel 97 several times a week, and we continually witness people flying around us in blind curves and hills when there is absolutely no way to see around them. Also motorcyclist on 97 are like wild people. It appears that there are drivers with a death wish out on the roadway, but we have to desire to participate in their fantasies. As it has been mentioned on numerous occasions there are never any police presence visible. Why? Hey 97 is a state road and is an artery to I65. There needs to be Troopers on this road. Who do we contact to make our voices heard? There is surely enough state taxes collected to pay for Troopers to patrol and monitor speeders in the north end of Escambia County. Maybe someone needs to open a coffee shop or a Waffle House along the way.

    We were up on 97 last Thursday and did not see a single police officer or state trooper on 97 all the way to Atmore for a car repair or all the way back. There may not be enough employed police officers working for the county or state. People driving on 97 need to follow the laws.

    This is the third wreck on 97 in the past five days

    I travel 97 frequently. Every trip I see multiple speeders, passing on double yellow lines. What I do not see are law enforcement officers.
