‘Armed and Dangerous’ Escambia County Homicide Suspect Arrested

An Escambia County homicide suspect described as “armed and dangerous” is no longer on the run.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that 36-year Darryl Jerome Walker has been arrested for homicide.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 12000 block of Meadson Road in reference to a shooting victim. Upon arrival, a 35-year-old female, later identified as Walker’s wife, was located with a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased.

Walker is believed to have shot his wife and then fled the scene.

Football Playoffs: Pensacola Catholic Wins Region 1-2S Over Florida High

Pensacola Catholic, the last remaining North Escambia area team in the playoffs defeated the Florida State University High School 17-10  Friday night in the Region 1-2S Championship game.

The No. 4 Crusaders faced No. 3 Florida High School at Mike Hickman Stadium in Tallahassee. Both teams entered the game with a 10-2 records.

Florida High had previously defeated Catholic in regionals four of the last five years.

Catholic travels to to face the Bradford Tornadoes next Friday night in the state semifinals.

After 300 Days, Escambia Animal Shelter’s Longest Resident Now Has A Home For The Holidays

Some good news to share this Thanksgiving holiday weekend…the longest resident of the Escambia County animal shelter has a home for the holidays.

Gibson had been in the shelter for 300 days before being adopted by his forever family, the Wingards.

“He’s adjusting very well, has eaten and drank, and is now tuckered out beside me on the couch snoring away. He has had no potty accidents and took a real long walk around our neighborhood. He’s such a sweet boy, and I am forever thankful to y’all for trusting us with him,” Gibson’s mom said of her “angel baby”.

Frank Earl Godwin

Mr. Frank Earl Godwin, age 81 of Glover Road in Century, Florida, passed away Wednesday morning November 22, 2023, at his Century address. Mr. Godwin was a native of Brewton and lifelong resident of the Century area. He was a retired from Kimberly Clark in the Woods department, was a welder, cabinet maker, and attended the House of Prayer Holiness Church in the Appleton Community. Mr. Godwin was past president of the Blue Branch Hunting Club and was a 1959 graduate of Century High School. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford F. Godwin and Mary Frances Welch Godwin; sister, Clarice Watson; brother, Phillip Wayne Godwin.

Mr. Godwin is survived by his daughter, Angela (Tommy Lee) Johnson of Flomaton; 3 brothers, Jerry (Linda) Godwin of Century, Danny (Enola) Godwin of Scottsboro, AL, Randall (Tammy) Godwin of Scottsboro, AL; sister, Barbara (Aubrey) Carroll of Westville, FL; 3 grandchildren, Austin (Kailynne) Johnson of the Pineview Community, Shyanne Johnson of Century, Caitlyn Johnson of Century; 2 great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Johnson, Jase Johnson.

Funeral services for Mr. Frank Earl Godwin will be held Sunday November 26, 2023, at 2 P.M. from the Chapel of Flomaton Funeral Home with Brother Chris Carroll, Brother Nathaniel Roach and Brother Tommy Lee Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery with FLOMATON FUNERAL HOME OF FLOMATON DIRECTING.

Visitation will be held Sunday November 26, 2023, from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. service time at Flomaton Funeral Home.

, age 60, born in Limestone, ME and a resident of Stockton, AL died Saturday, November 18, 2023 at his residence. He was the owner of R&J Painting.

He is survived by his wife, Robin Penny Miller Stewart of Stockton, AL; his children, Warren M. “W.M.” Stewart of Bay Minette, AL, Jodi Marlena (Jonathan) Singleton of Perdido, AL, Jacob Allen Hattamer of Colorado, Forrest Denise Harris of Bay Minette, AL and Devin Cintheny Harris of Lillian, AL; his mother, Pricilla (George) Dunn of Cantonment, FL; one sister, Tina Lynae (Mack) Hadley of Stockton, AL; ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his father, W.M. Stewart; a brother, Leonard Leroy Stewart and a grandson, Damian Stewart Singleton.

A gathering of friends and family will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home.

Ada Clarice Chaney

Ada Clarice Chaney, 89 of Cantonment, Florida passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023. She was born in Mississippi on December 24, 1933 to Fletcher and Davie Lee Gilbert.
Clarice retired as a teacher for children with special needs. She was a Christian and a member of Cottage Hill United Methodist Church. She was the matriarch of her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anita Gabriel and Hilda Clanton (Henry); and her brother, Alton Gilbert.

She is survived by her best friend and love of her life, Jim Horne; her sons, James Chaney, Jr., Timothy Chaney, and Paul Chaney (Cris); and daughter, Linda Meredith; grandchildren, Jason, Emily, Olivia, Malcolm, Crysta, and Ryan; 2 great-grandchildren, Leah and Asher; nieces, Carla Miller (Charlie), Sherry Harris (Mike); nephews, Randy Gabriel (Debbie), Lindsay Gabriel (Brenda), Scott Clanton (Maria), Chris Clanton (Magda), and David Clanton.

Visitation services for Ada Clarice Chaney will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North (1000 South Highway 29, Cantonment, FL 32533) at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 27, 2023.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor David Cook officiating.

Clarice will be laid to rest at Philadelphus Presbyterian Cemetery in Waynesboro, Mississippi.

Jacqueline Jane “Jackie” Calloway

Mrs. Jacqueline Jane “Jackie” Calloway, age 75 of Century Fl passed away Thursday afternoon surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Calloway was a native of South Carolina, and a lifetime resident of Century FL. She owned and operated Calloway’s Store in Century, FL for many years. After retirement, she enjoyed spending all her time loving on her children and grandchildren. She loved to sew and crochet, along with caregiving to others. Mrs. Calloway was of the Baptist faith and attended Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Floyd Calloway of Century, FL; sons, Michael (Lisa) Calloway of Century, FL, Tommy (Megan) Calloway of Century, FL, Stephen (Stacey) Calloway of Century, FL; daughter, Tammy (Glen) Reid of Century, FL; grandchildren, Samantha, Rebecca, Katelynne, Zac, Logan, Maddie, Brooke, Codie, River, Brittany, Austin, Shila, Courtney, Meagan, and Zac. great-grandchildren, Dylan, Harper, Bentley, Clayton, Lawson, Fletcher, Walker, Remi, Zaiden, Zaylee, Phoenix, King, Kash, Cason, and Sam. Along with special niece, Teresa Kleakley.

Preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Elta Crow Phillips; brothers, Jim Phillips, and Johnny Phillips; sisters, Julia Dennings, and Judy Smith.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 27, 2023, from 12 noon until 2:00 P.M. service time at Poplar Dell Baptist Church in Century Fl.

Drivers Getting A Road Construction Break Until Monday

Florida drivers are getting a little break from road construction during the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, there will be no construction related lane closures on state roads through 11 p.m. on Sunday. The lane closure restrictions include both construction and maintenance activities.

Alene Godwin Kelly

Mrs. Alene Godwin Kelly, age 80, passed away, Monday, November 20, 2023 in Pensacola, Florida. She was born on August 7, 1943 in Bay Minette, Alabama, preceding her in death, her parents Houston Marion and Lois Jones Godwin, along with 3 brothers Jesse Marion Godwin, Sonny Godwin and Stanley Godwin.

She had a passion for quilting and sewing making many different things throughout the years. Crocheting and baking cakes was also a favorite past time. She also enjoyed spending time with family.

Mrs. Godwin is survived by her husband, Curtis J Kelly of Atmore, Alabama; 2 sons, Alan Kelly of Pensacola, Florida and Chris Kelly (Victoria) of Canoe, Alabama; daughter, Janet James of Atmore, Alabama; brother, Billy Joe Godwin of Miami, Florida; 4 sisters, Bonnie Mae Wright of Bay Minette, Alabama, Hilda Godwin of Perdido, Alabama, Marie Tuberville, of Perdido, Alabama, and Betty Matthews of Bay Minette, Alabama; 6 grandchildren Derrek Gibson, Tori Gibson, Trinity Gibson, Daylin Gibson, Grace Kelly and Gabe Kelly; 3 great grandchildren, Charity, Lilly and Maggie.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC

Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.
