August 31, 2023

Elizabeth Cornelia Stanton Enfinger, 86, of Jay, Florida, went to be with Jesus on Monday, August 28, 2023. She was born on March 16, 1937, in Jay and lived most of her life here. After graduating from Jay High School in 1955, she moved to Mobile, AL to attend nursing school at Mobile Infirmary. It was there that she met her future husband who was stationed at Brookley Air Force Base. After the birth of their daughters, Barbara and Jo Anne, he was transferred to Panama City, FL. From there, they moved to Montgomery, AL where they welcomed their son, Bobby. Pensacola, FL was their next move before returning to Jay. After this last move, Elizabeth spent many years employed at Jay Hospital before finishing her nursing career as a home healthcare nurse. Throughout each move she worked as a nurse which next to her children and faith was her greatest passion. Being a mentor to new nurses is a lasting legacy that she left behind at each position.

In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and nurse, Elizabeth was known as a master seamstress designing and sewing many clothes, as well as prom and wedding dresses for both her girls. She was a faithful and active member of Jay United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. Elizabeth quickly became a world traveler and made visits to Europe and Asia to be present for the births of her adored grandchildren. She was an avid reader of her beloved Bible, monthly Upper Room, and sweet Christian romance books.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Robert and Maggie (Ray) Stanton, her husband of 49 years, Jimmy D. Enfinger, her grandson, Jared Lutz, her son, Robert (Bobby) Ashley Enfinger, her two brothers, Wilmer Stanton and Donald Stanton, and the sister of her heart, Barbara (Aunt Jenny) Jernigan.

She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (Brandon) Lutz, Jo Anne (Russell) Raught, four grandchildren: Seth (Xena) Raught, Jeremy (Becky) Raught, Caitlin (Tom) Carr, and Victoria (Brandon) Poley, and two great grandchildren, Olivia Carr and Railyn Ellis. Shealso leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Barbara and Jo Anne were so blessed to be together with their Mama her last week and were able to share many happy memories, laughter, and tears. This time with her will forever be cherished.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Terrace at Ivy Acres for all their love and support.
