South Walton Tops Northview

The Northview Chiefs fell to the South Walton Seahawks 7-0 Friday night in Santa Rosa Beach.

The Seahawks were up 4-0 by the end of the first inning  and added one run in the third and two in the fourth. The game was scoreless in the final three innings.

Jamarkus Jefferson pitched three innings, allowing five hits on five runs and striking out five. Cason Burkett went for three, allowing four hits and two runs while recording two strikeouts.

Wyatt Scruggs had the only hit of the night for the Chiefs with a single in the second inning.

The Chiefs will return to action following spring break as they travel for a rematch with Pensacola Christian Academy on Tuesday, March 21. Last Thursday night, Northview shut out PCA 12-0.

Teen Critical After Highway 97 Wreck; FHP Says It Was The At Fault Driver’s Second Wreck Of The Day

A teen girl was critically injured when the car in which she was riding was rear-ended Thursday afternoon on Highway 97, and troopers say it was the second wreck of the day for the at-fault driver.

A Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 51-year old Pensacola woman was northbound on Highway 97 at Pilgrim Trail when she rear-ended  a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 56-year old Molino woman., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Hyundai then left the roadway and crashed into a large tree.

The driver of theHyundai and a 15-year old female passenger were transported by Escambia County EMS to Sacred Heart Hospital.

According to FHP, it was the second crash on Thursday for the pickup truck driver; troopers said she was involved a wreck earlier in the day while driving a car. FHP said the woman was not impaired and was issued a citation.

Tate Aggies Blast Washington 18-4 (With Gallery)

The Tate Aggies blasted the Washington Wildcats 18-4 Thursday night.

Brayden Touchstone led the Aggies in the hitting onslaught, going 5-6 with a seventh inning home run. Cliften Quiggins went 4-6, while Drew Reaves and Madox Land were 3-4.

Four pitchers — Aiden Byrd, Colton Swiers, Rilee Lowery and Tristin Lynn — combined to allow just four hits and three runs while striking out 15.

The Aggies will host the annual Aggie Classic next week during spring break.

Fire Marshal Now Investigating Suspicious Century Mobile Home Fire

March 10, 2023

The Florida State Fire Marshal is now investigating the cause of a fire at a vacant mobile in Century early Thursday morning.

The fire was reported by a passerby about 4:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of North Century Boulevard, just south of Upton Road.

The single-wide mobile home was fully involved in fire when the first units arrived on scene and was a total loss, according to Escambia County Fire Rescue.

The fire was brought under control by 5:04 a.m. There were no injuries reported.

The southbound lanes of Highway 29 were closed during the incident.

Northview Shuts Out Pensacola Christian 12-0 (With Gallery)

Three pitchers combined to throw a shutout Thursday night in Bratt as the Northview Chiefs beat the Pensacola Christian Academy Warriors 12-0 in five innings.

Jamarkus Jefferson earned the win in one and two-thirds innings, giving up one hit, no runs, one walk and striking out three. Tyler Shaw went for one and a third innings with no runs, not hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Kaden Odom was on the mound for two innings with no runs, no hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

Josh Landis went 2-3, and Grayden Sheffield was 2-2 to lead the Chiefs at the plate. Odom, Jefferson, and  Shaw added one hit each.

Odom had four stolen bases on the night.

Northview will head to Santa Rosa Beach Friday night to take on South Walton before sitting out spring break next week.

Sexual Offender Accused Of Assaulting Century Correctional Institution Officer

March 10, 2023

Inmate Victor A. McFadden, a convicted sex offender, assaulted an officer at Century Correctional Institution, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

“Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued,” FDC said.

McFadden, 35, is serving a three year sentence out of Lake County for traveling to meet a minor to commit an unlawful sexual offense, and sending harmful information to a minor.

Tate Softball Beats Navarre; Gulf Breeze Tops Northview

Tate 10, Navarre 7

The Tate Aggies held on to beat Navarre 10-7 Thursday night in Navarre.

Tied in the top of the seventh inning, Cookd doubled on an 0-2 count to score three runs.

Jordan Smith pitched the win for the Lady Aggies, allowing one hit, one run, no walks and striking out five in three and two-third innings. Peyton Womack tossed one-third of an inning, giving up three hits and three runs. Kate Balagbagan went for three, allowing three runs, four hits, no walks and striking out four.

Amburleigh Laird went 2-4 at the plate to lead the Aggies. Olivia Latner had a homer in the third inning. Balagbagan, Womack, Lacy Wilson, Charlie Vinson, Mackenzie Cook and Tristen Showalter tallied one hit Thursday night.

The Lady Aggies will take a long spring break, returning to action on March 21 with a trip to Pace.

Gulf Breeze 10, Northview 1

The Northview Chiefs lost to Gulf Breeze 10-1 Thursday night in Gulf Breeze.

Emma Gilmore went for two in the circle, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out three. Aubrey Stuckey pitched four, allowing seven hits and eight runs while getting one strikeout.

Makayla Golson led the Chiefs at bat, going 2-2 including a homer in the third inning.

Northview will be back in action following spring break at Pensacola Catholic on March 21.

Joyce Phillips Sellers

March 10, 2023

Joyce Phillips Sellers, age 76, of Atmore, AL passed away on March 7, 2023. She was born on March 25, 1946 in Atmore, AL to Harvey Lester and Glenda Mildred Ellison Phillips. Joyce was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore and worked with United Bank for 47 years. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Burton “Buck” Sellers and her brother, William Harvey “Bill” Phillips.

She is survived by her son, Leonard Ray (Leslie) Sellers of Atmore, AL; her daughter, Vicki S. (J.B.) Gulsby of Uriah, AL; her brother, Joseph A. (Becky) Phillips of Atmore, AL; her sister, Barbara (Wayne) Harrison of Atmore, AL and her grandchildren: Noel, Haley, Heather, Jackson and Myles.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kevin Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Rodney Helton, Travis Harrison, Jarard Phillips, Chris Harrison, Jonathan Phillips, Mike Helton and Michael Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be the ladies Sunday school class of First Baptist Church of
Atmore.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, AL.
