September 15, 2022
Next Wednesday, September 21, is an early release day for public schools in Escambia County.
All schools will serve breakfast and lunch to students on the early release day. Regular modes of student transportation will be provided.
Other early release days this school year are scheduled for November 2, December 20, February 1 and May 23.
Early release days provide teachers and staff regular opportunities for professional development.
Release times are listed below. For additional information, contact your child’s school.

@Oversight. It’s impossible to please everyone. Our district has gone back and forth scheduling mandatory teacher training, from full day to early release days. There are pros, cons, and state law to consider. Every family’s needs/preferences are different.
Many student-centered activities (homecoming week, pep rallies, releasing students from classes to buy some fundraising product, disrupt instructional time. Concerning “extended” lunches, many teachers work through lunch most days and often have to give up planning time to cover for other teachers. If you figure how much personal time they spend on non-instructional/academic activity (conferences, training, meetings, working concession stands and ticket gates, dances, sponsoring clubs,, tutoring, calling parents, etc.), you’d find their salaries are ridiculously low, and Florida teacher pay is near the bottom in the country. In the final analysis taxpayers are getting more than they pay for. No wonder there’s a teacher shortage.
With the deplorable condition of education in this county and country, I would think it would be better to keep them in school for extra days, not let them out early. I’d like to know what kind of professional development the teachers are receiving.
These “early release” days are a farce and need to go the way of Santa Rosa. Students lose valuable classroom time, while teachers and staff take-off for an extended lunch. So after the long lunch, there is actually little time spent “training”. By the way, how much student instruction will happen around here on Friday? LOL!
