Gloria Sharpless Sims, age 80, of Atmore, AL passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Alabama with her children by her side.

She was born on August 20, 1942 in Pensacola, FL to Rex James and Vesta Melton Sharpless & lived 78 of her 80 years in Atmore with a short move to Waycross, GA in her early 20’s. Gloria loved the people of Atmore and especially being involved with her church family at the First
Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed serving as secretary of Escambia Academy from 1971-1980 and her part time job of keeping books for small businesses. In 1980, she began her 32 year career as a Medical Records Technician with Dr. JB Thomas & later worked with Dr. Delaine Salter & Dr. James Dixon. From 2002-2012, she worked with Dr. Thomas Boshell in Brewton, AL which was a highlight of her career. Although Gloria spent most of her time serving others through work, she also served through her amazing culinary skills. Every meal was a treat, but her Christmas dinners were extraordinary, and she made the absolute best deserts, pickles, preserves and jellies. She also enjoyed creating amazing delicacies for friends’ gatherings and baked hundreds of mouth-watering cakes for Mark’s restaurant in the 1980’s. Of course, she is most known for being a faithful, loving friend and for the deep love, pride and joy that she felt for her children and grandchildren. She was always delighted to share of their activities and accomplishments.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Lynwood Jackie Sims and her sister, Carolyn Sharpless Lambert.

She is survived by her son, Mark D. (Lori) Sims of Water Island, US VirginIslands; her daughter, Daphne Sims (Jeff) Cook of Daphne, AL; her brother, Lamar (Sandra) Sharpless of Orange Beach, AL and her grandchildren: Katie Sims and Megan Sims of Brighton, MI; Nathan Cook and Alex Cook of Birmingham, AL and Broxton Cook of Daphne, AL.
