    @ Mr. James
“I wonder what the number is that they deem unacceptable”
    The number is 3.
We have a 3 strike rule in Florida concerning dangerous roads.
They usually are sentenced to 5-10 with no gain time

Nothing worse than a repeat offender road.
Praying the road gets right with Jesus

nothing wrong with 97, operator error., it is a smooth road, a few curves, but nothing that just paying attention would not fix….and the correct use of bright lights.

Does the road cause people to speed, pass on yellow lines, tailgate, and play with their phones? Really?

First of all and most importantly…prayers for the driver (and passengers if there were any). Now, blaming the road? It’s already been intelligently addressed below…ITS NOT THE ROAD! Way too many people drive distracted these days or they are always in a hurry. That stretch of road(29 to Atmore) is no different than any other road. What are we going to do? All we can do is police ourselves and do what we can, personally, to not wind up in this news publication…by the way, it’s the BEST source of real and true News in our area, thank you William. I believe this road is spotlighted with accidents because they happen pretty frequently but yes, 29 is just as bad as is every other road I drive on. We all see those drivers weaving in front of us only to get beside them and they have that dadgum phone in their face. Now, this isn’t the best thing to do but I have just laid into my horn a few times but most of the times that will “wake up” the driver and startle them but they put that phone down. Will pray for ALL DRIVERS on every road and especially the newest victim of not paying attention on the Atmore Cutoff Road…yall please put them phones down

    RE: HMMM and Bates
I like ya’ll. Good common sense is hard to find. My dad lived in Walnut hill for 32 years and I visited him then I started working the area 15 years ago. Have never had an issue with the road only other drivers that don’t PAY ATTENTION to the road and conditions.
Keep your eyes forward and drive safe.

Re:Hmmmm. I totally agree with you, about people wanting to blame the roads, when in fact, the road is not dangerous, it’s the drivers. The road does not need to be fix. People need to be fix.

and your insurance goes up every time there is a crash it’s not your car not your fault but yea the cost to fix or replace that car or truck will come out of everyone else’s pocket. I’m sure the car lots love to see you walk on there lot with that check from the insurance company. if you have full coverage insurance if not happy walking.

Actually, the road itself is not dangerous at all. I’ve never heard of it punching anyone in the face or shooting into a moving vehicle. It’s just a run-of-the-mill highway, with nice shoulders, rumble strips, normal speed limit, etc. The problem is people. Everyone in a hurry, some being stupid and passing on double yellow line, lack of driving skills, distracted driving (texting), etc. That’s a society problem. Yeah, the deputies/troopers can pull over a few people and give them warnings and tickets and it might help the issue for a few days, but it doesn’t fix the problems. And if you move because of Hwy 97? You better move into town where you don’t have to get on a highway… the same thing happens on other highways, including 29.

“When will the county do something about it”

It’s a state road. The county can’t do anything about it.

This road is so dangerous. When will the county do something about it. Whether it is the conditions on the road or reckless drivers. Way to many people are hurt and killed on this road than should be acceptable. I wonder what the number is that they deem unacceptable… should just be 1 I know several people who have moved just to avoid driving on this road.
