$7.2 Million In Safety Improvements Begin On East Nine Mile Road
May 2, 2022
The Florida Department of Transportation is set to begin work on a $7.2 million project to improve safety on a 2.3 mile segment of East Nine Mile Road.
Planned safety improvements between Chemstrand Road and Baldridge Road include:
- Widening the turn lanes to include five-foot bicycle lanes in each direction.
- Traffic signal upgrades.
- Guardrail, pavement markings, and sidewalk enhancements.
- Drainage improvements.
- Milling and resurfacing all turn lanes and bicycle lanes.
FDOT said the project is anticipated to be complete by the Summer of 2023.
During construction, drivers and bicyclists can expect lane closures and traffic shifts. Lane closures will be limited to the 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. timeframe seven days a week. Pedestrian detours will be in place while sidewalk improvements are underway.

Two posts in and we have another one calling for yet ANOTHER red light on 9-mile rd. Just so you know, the “improvements” being made aren’t going to put in lights at all. Also, it will end up being yet another over time, over budget job for the county because SOMEBODY is padding wallets here pretty well. Time to avoid the east end of 9-Mile for the next 5 years or so.
If it is the same bunch that did west nine mile, I would not count on it to be complete in 2023. More like 2025.
They need to put a traffic light in front of evermans, that turning lane in the center of the road is a nightmare with all the businesses right there .
Finally. I’ve seen so many accidents and traffic jams in that area. I hope what they build isn’t for todays traffic flow but can handle whatever is forecasted for 15 years from now.
