New Beulah Fire Station Groundbreaking Set; May Be Named ‘The Bradshaw-McNair Fire Station’

April 27, 2022

Escambia County is set to break ground on the new Beulah Fire Station on May 6, and it will likely be named in honor of two local heroes.

“It will be my intention to dedicate the facility to two men and their families who have sacrificed so much over the years to this community and this station,” Escambia County Commissioner Jeff Bergosh wrote on his blog.

He intends to ask the commission to approve the name “The Bradshaw-McNair Fire Station” in honor of Chief Dwain S. Bradshaw who died in the line of duty in November 2019, and Chief Steve McNair who dedicated over 50 years to fire service in Beulah.

A paid fire crew has staffed the current Beulah Fire Station since October 2021 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteers cover responses at other times.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for Friday, May 6 at 11:30 a.m. and will be open to the public. The new station will be built directly behind the current fire station on Nine Mile Road.

  • Ability to pre-apply for individuals who are requesting an Alabama License for the first time

In addition to the new hardware, tremendous amounts of data received since 1970 has been converted into LEADS.

Blue Wahoos Rally Late For Win Over Biloxi

April 27, 2022

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos scored four unearned runs in the top of the ninth to steal their series opener against the Biloxi Shuckers on Tuesday night by a score of 7-4.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth, Paul McIntosh’s deep fly ball was dropped by left fielder Noah Campbell to score three runs and give Pensacola a 6-3 lead.

George Soriano struggled with his command in his start for the Blue Wahoos, tying a career high with 6 walks over 3.1 innings. He allowed three runs in the first inning on only one hit, a Joey Wiemer RBI double.

Trailing 3-0 early, the Blue Wahoos got scoreless work from Soriano and Anthony Maldonado in the middle innings to keep the game within reach. A two-run homer from Luis Aviles Jr. in the fourth got Pensacola on the board, and Jerar Encarnacion tied things up in the seventh with his league-leading sixth homer of the year.

Eli Villalobos (W, 1-1) pitched scoreless relief in the seventh and eighth innings, setting the stage for McIntosh’s three-run fly ball in the ninth against Lucas Erceg (L, 0-1). Griffin Conine backed up the blunder with an RBI single to score McIntosh, marking the only hit of the four-run frame.

Colton Hock allowed a solo home run to Ashton McGee in the ninth, but got the final three outs to help the Blue Wahoos win their second in a row.

The Blue Wahoos continue their series against the Biloxi Shuckers on Wednesday night.

Two Charged With Child Neglect After Kids Nearly Hit By Car In Jacks Branch Road

April 26, 2022

Two people are facing felony charges after two children were found playing in Jacks Branch Road and were nearly hit by a vehicle.

Fred Delane Young, Jr, age 32, and Ashley Marie Boswell, 31, were both charged with two counts of child neglect.

A Florida Department of Law Enforcement special agent was traveling south of Jacks Branch Road when she observed a vehicle stopped in the road and a woman standing with two children, one of which was completely naked. The woman stated she had to slam on brakes to avoid hitting one of the children as they danced and played.

The FDLE agent took the children to the home but was first unable to make contact with an adult.

“I observed the home to be in deplorable conditions with animal feces on the floor, dishes overflowing in the sink, and trash over flowing the trash can,” an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy wrote in his report. The deputy made contract with a witness inside the home who stated the children were not his, but that they belonged to Boswell and Young. He stated he was asleep and had no idea that the children were there or than Bowell and Young had left the home. He told deputies that they had been arguing the night before about narcotics.

One of the children stated they were hungry and had not eaten since the previous day. The FDLE agent obtained permission to enter the home to locate food for the children. She stated that she observed roaches all over the kitchen, unwashed dishes piled up in the sink, and a loaf of bread in the refrigerator that appeared to have been eaten by a rat.

Fleas were found on the children, the arrest report states.

The deputy also noted a child’s training toilet containing feces with blood on it and the bathroom toilet contained feces.

As the investigation continued, Young arrived on scene with Boswell asleep in his vehicle. They both stated they wanted a lawyer, the report states.

The children were removed by the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Young and Boswell remained in the Escambia County Jail Tuesday morning with bond set at $6,000 each.
