Jean Ellen Carpenter Carlson

April 20, 2022

Jean Ellen Carpenter Carlson at the age of 62 passed away on April 14,2022 in Pensacola, Florida. Ellen was born in Loudens County Columbus Mississippi on September 27, 1959. Her parents were David Cresswell Carpenter Jr. and Zita Jane Montgomery Carpenter.

Ellen lived her primary years with her parents in a farming/Mennonite community in Macon, MS. The pecan orchards and the fields of cotton and soybeans of the countryside are where Ellen grew up feeling she was blessed to live free and unbounded. Eventually, Ellen and her family came to Pensacola where her grandmothers and Aunt lived. Ellen found a whole new family of friends awaited her here and she developed strong bonds of friendships that would last a lifetime and beyond.

After graduating from Pine Forest High School, Ellen became a nurse and worked as a traveling contract nurse. In addition to nursing, she worked in retail sales. She enjoyed going to church, traveling, eating out, shopping, and going to the movies. Ellen cared very much for the comfort and care of others. She truly embodied the command of Christ to “love our neighbors as ourselves” and “whatever you do for the least of these you do for me”. Many of us wrestle daily with unforgiveness and regret but Ellen had the gift of joy. She always maintained a hopeful outlook that Jesus Christ could and would turn any situation and any person in any circumstance toward his promise of eternal life. Her hope was in a heavenly place and a heavenly King where all would be well and there is no more sorrow and no more pain. Ellen was a kindhearted person and had a love for people that many others had long ago given up on.

She was preceded in death by her father David Carpenter Jr. of Macon, MS and her husband Robert “Buddy” Carlson of Pensacola, FL. She is survived by her mother Jane Carpenter of Sneads, FL, her only son Robert Carlson (Randi) of Pensacola, FL, her grandson Quinton Carlson, nephews Terry Macks (April) (Hayleigh) (Hannah) of Pensacola, Joseph Davis (Keaton) of Pensacola, FL, Nieces, Emily Davis (Isiah) of Pensacola, FL, Nicole Jordan (Trenton) of New Port News, VA, and her sister Doanie Ashby (Matthew) of Jackson, MS. and many beloved and cherished friends and family too numerous to name.

There will be a memorial on Sunday April 24,2022 at 5:00 pm at Calvary Bible Fellowship 10460 Motley Ct. Pensacola, FL 32514.
