Rev. Charles D. Rice

Rev. Charles D. Rice, age 93, passed away, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at his home Century, FL. Charles was born in Pollard, AL; on October 28, 1928 and has resided in Century, FL; most of his life. Charles remained independent to the very end. Charles was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, and will be missed by many. Charles was a member of Pine Barren Baptist Church. Charles pastored several churches in the surrounding area during his time in the ministry. Charles loved the Lord, church, and his family. Charles retired from the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL; and also retired from Walmart in Brewton, AL. Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran that served in the Korean War and also served in the Florida and Alabama National Guard. Charles will be remembered a lot for the childhood and army day stories. Charles also enjoyed fishing with the church group and his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buckner (Lena Mae Childress) Rice, wife, Winnie Ruth Rice, two brothers, James Rice, George Rice, four sisters, Florence “Flossie” Castillow, Kate Bondurant, Ellen Barrow, Betty Norwood, daughter-in law, Nelda Rice.

He is survived by his one son, Roy Charles Rice, of Walnut Hill, FL; four daughters, Melody (Mark) Bondurant, of Flomaton, AL; Fay (Butch) Filligim, of McDavid, FL; Kay Yetter, of Century, FL; Arlene (James) Crawford, of Gallion, AL; one sister, Vickie Hussey, of Hernandez, MS; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC with Rev. Mike Harper and Rev. Robert Barrow officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Barren Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Pallbearers will be John McAnally, Chad Sims, Joseph Merchant, Troy Merchant, Caden Peterson, and Carlos Koehn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Derek Rice.
