Reminder: Blue Jacket Jamboree, 2,000 Easter Egg Drop And Livestock Show Today In Molino

The Northview High School FFA Blue Jacket Jamboree, along with the Gulf Coast Agriculture & Natural Resources Youth Organization Annual Spring Livestock Show.
The Blue Jacket Jamboree is a free festival from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. that will feature dozens of arts and craft vendors, food vendors, a car show, local entertainment, kids’ activities, and much more. There will also be an Easter egg drop at noon with the Easter Bunny and about 2,000 eggs including a special section for preschoolers.
Saturday’s schedule for the livestock show is as follows:
- 9 a.m. – Swine
- Noon – Rabbits
- 1 p.m. – Steers
- 2:30 p.m. – Goats and Lambs
- 3:15 p.m. – Preview Steers
- 4 p.m. – Poultry Auction
- 5 p.m. – Steer & Swine Auction
Admission and parking are free for both the Blue Jacket Jamboree and livestock show at the Escambia 4-H Livestock Facility located at 5701 Highway 99 in Molino.
All proceeds will benefit Northview High School FFA students and their scholarship fund.

Pedestrian Killed At Highway 29, Tate School Road

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 29 at Tate School Road early Friday morning.
A Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on Highway 29 approaching Tate School Road as a 60-year old female was walking westbound in the center of the intersection. The pedestrian turned and started back eastbound, entering the northbound lane as the pickup truck approached.
The front left corner of the pickup collided with the pedestrian at 4:38 a.m.
The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 44-year old male driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
FHP no longer releases the names of traffic crash victims.

Man Charged With Kicking, Holding Girlfriend Against Her Will
March 25, 2022
A Flomaton man has been charged with kicking his girlfriend and holding her against her will in Cantonment.
Jorge Escobedo Saldana was charged with battery and false imprisonment.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a disturbance call on Pinebrook Circle off Highway 297A.
The victim told deputies that she was ending the relationship with Saldana, her boyfriend. She said they have a child together.
As they drove onto Pinebrook Circle, they were involved in a verbal altercation. When she tried to exit the vehicle, Saldana grabbed her by the throat and told her that she was not going anywhere, according to an arrest report.
She ran, but fell. Saldana then kicked her in her side, the report continues. She was able to run away and hide under a vehicle.
He was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
Dedication Held For FPL Cotton Creek Solar Energy Center In North Escambia (With Photo Gallery)

A commissioning ceremony was held Thursday for the Florida Power & Light Cotton Creek Solar Energy Center in North Escambia.
The first solar energy center of its kind in Escambia County generates up to about 75 megawatts. There are about 270,000 solar panels on the 358 acre site on Bogia Road, in the community of Bogia which is just south of McDavid.
“Today, we’re commissioning a brand new solar facility that powers over 15,000 homes and covers over 350 acres out here in Bogia,” Eric Silagy, FPL chairman and CEO, told NorthEscambia.com at the event. “We are really, really proud that this, one of 50 facilities across the state that are powering FPL homes and businesses.”

“We’re only halfway on our initial goal of 30 million panels by 2030. Solar is great, in many ways because you’re able to generate electricity using the sun and not burning fuel,” he said.
The First City Solar Energy Center, the second FPL solar site to be built in North Escambia, off Holland, Cox and Roach roads in McDavid is in the early stages of the construction process. It will be just over five miles to the north of the Cotton Creek facility. And, as first reported by NorthEscambia.com in February, FPL intends to build a third solar farm in North Escambia on hundreds of acres in Molino.
The Sparkleberry Solar Energy Center is planned for 555 acres south of the end of Pilgrim Trail and should be online by 2024.
“I want the communities where we are located and proud to have us,” Silagy said. “We’re absolutely working to be good neighbors. We can’t do this without community support. We can’t get the permission that we need without the community support, and we live here, we raise our families here like everybody else. We want to be good stewards of the community because we’re here for a long time.”

Gilmore Knocks Grand Slam As Northview Beats The Escambia Gators 14-2; Tate Splits With Milton

Emma Gilmore hit a grand slam for the Northview Lady Chiefs Thursday night as they powered past the Escambia Gators 14-2 in Bratt.
Gilmore’s grand slam to center field scored Chloe Ragsdale, Jamison Gilman and Payton Gilchrist.
Ragsdale, Gilchrist, Makayla Golson and Aubrie Stuckey had two hits each for the Lady Chiefs. Gilmore, Alana Roberson, Gilman and Gracie Godwin had one hit each.
Stuckey pitched four and two-thirds innings for Northview, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out five. Alexis Barnhill closed in relief.

The junior varsity Northview Chiefs also defeated Escambia 6-4 Thursday in Bratt.
Milton 8, Tate 7
Milton topped the Tate Aggies 8-7 Thursday night.
Courtney Lundquist went seven innings, allow 11 eights and eight runs while striking out three.
Kennedy Turner had a home run for the Lady Aggies in the third inning.
Sophia Jones led at the plate for the Aggies, going 3-4.
Tate 6, Milton 3 (JV)
The junior varsity Tate Aggies beat Milton 6-3 Thursday.

Northview Beats Central 13-3; Tate Freshmen Beat Navarre (With Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs defeated Central 13-3 Thursday night in Bratt.
Jamarkus Jefferson went 3-3 at the plate to lead the Chiefs. Trent Knighten, Josh Landis and Kaden Odom had two hits each, while Rustin Pope and Wyatt Scruggs both had one.
Cason Burkett went three innings for Northview, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two. Jefferson pitched one, allowing one run on one hits an striking out two. Ethan Collier went for two, striking out four.

Tate 8, Navarre 1 (Freshmen)
The Tate Aggie Freshmen defeated Navarre 8-1 Thursday.
Sheppard Edgar went two innings, allowing no runs, no hits and striking out five to earn the win for Tate. Trever Land, and Nathan Ozuna pitched in relief.
The Freshmen Aggies were led at the plate by Tyler Folder with two hits.

Suspect Evades Capture In Cantonment Manhunt

A suspect evaded capture during a manhunt Thursday afternoon in Cantonment.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance about 4:35 p.m. on Madrid Road. The domestic violence suspect allegedly hit his girlfriend before fleeing.
A perimeter was established and a K-9 search followed in the area of the Santa Maria Plaza/Farm Hill Park around Madrid, DeSoto and Santa Rosa roads. The sheriff’s office says the suspect was not located.
No suspect description or other information was provided.

Tate’s Strike Out Cancer Softball Game Is This Evening

The Tate High Aggies Softball team’s 12 Annual Strike Out Cancer Game against West Florida High will be played Friday evening.
All proceeds will benefit the local chapter of American Cancer Society
The junior varsity will play at 5 p.m., and the first pitch for varsity is set for 7 p.m. at Charlene Varnell Field at Tate High School.
Admission is donations only. Fish dinners will be available for $12 and gumbo for $6.
Last year, the Strike Out Cancer Game raised over $22,000.

The Northview High School FFA Blue Jacket Jamboree is returning to Molino on Saturday, along with the Gulf Coast Agriculture & Natural Resources Youth Organization Annual Spring Livestock Show on both Friday and Saturday. The event was canceled the last two years due to COVID-19.
The Blue Jacket Jamboree is a free festival from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. that will feature dozens of arts and craft vendors, food vendors, a car show, kids’ activities, and much more. There will also be an Easter egg drop at noon with the Easter Bunny and about 2,000 eggs including a special section for preschoolers.
