Firefighters Free Kitty Stuck In Furniture

A cute little kitten recently found itself stuck in a tough spot, but was saved by Escambia Fire Rescue.

The kitten’s head recently became stuck in a piece of furniture. With the careful use of tin snips, firefighters were able to safely free the kitty.

Florida Gas Prices Hold Steady

December 27, 2021

Florida gas prices were steady over the past week.

Pump prices averaged $3.22 per gallon across the state on Sunday, after slipping 3.5 cents two weeks ago and 12 cents per gallon since Thanksgiving.

In Escambia County, the average price per gallon Sunday night was $3.15, unchanged from a week ago. About a half dozen Cantonment stations were below $3, while a county low of $2.81 could be found at a Pensacola Boulevard gas station.

Steve Luman Wilson

Steve Luman Wilson, 62 of Barrineau Park, FL. passed away December 24, 2021 at his home in Barrineau Park surrounded by his wife and their two children. He was born in Pensacola, FL. on February 7, 1959. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for Escambia County Florida Roads and Bridges. He is preceded in death by his father Luman Edward Wilson, step father Alfred O’Connor and a special nephew Dalton Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of over 42 years Hazel Smith Wilson, daughter; Stephanie (Kenny) Lewis, son; Luman (April) Wilson; four grandchildren Austin (Shelby) Lewis, Tyler Wilson, Cooper Lewis, Jayce Wilson all of Barrineau Park, FL and his mother; Liddie O’Connor. He is also survived by his brother; Tim (Lisa) Wilson of Barrineau Park, FL; sisters; Marilyn Stone of Barrineau Park, FL; Evelyn (Buddy) Bethea of Walnut Hill, FL; Paula (Sammy) Thomley of Perdido, AL; Lisa (Randy) Newton of Pensacola, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A Celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 3:30 PM at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Fred Stallworth officiating.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 2:30 PM until service time at 3:30 PM at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Regency Hospice for their compassionate care they provided to Steve and his family.

Vera Theresa Barlow

On December 29, 1955, Vera Theresa Barlow was born to Walter and Bessie Barlow. She was the youngest of her brothers and sisters. She was an amazingly kind and selfless woman who loved everyone in her life and would gladly give anyone anything they needed if she could. On December 22, 2021, she joined her Heavenly Father and will always be remembered and loved. She is preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings.

She is survived by son, John (Crystal) Oakes of Knoxville, TN and daughter Michelle (Travis) Flowers of Uriah, AL. Grandchildren: Theresa (Labon) Turk of Uriah, AL; Amber (Logan) Boatwright of Atmore, AL; Austin Flowers of Uriah, AL; and Mason Flowers of Uriah, AL. Great-grandchildren: Castiel and Rowan Turk of Urah, AL and Kennedy and Rhett Turk of Atmore, AL. She is survived by six siblings: Walter “Tobe” (Bobbie) Barlow Jr of Shepherd, TX; Margaret Ann (Larson) Bryars of Perdido, AL; Judy Rathsack of Atmore, AL; Donald Barlow of Nokomis, FL; Frank “Dunky” (Shirley) Barlow of Nokomis, AL; and Debbie Barlow of Nokomis, FL.

A Celebration of Life will be held for her at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home at 4pm on January 17, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you make a donation in her memory to your charity of choice.

Christmas Day Fire Rips Through Molino Mobile Home

A fire that damaged a mobile home in Molino Christmas afternoon is under investigation.

The fire was reported about 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the 6000 block of Jahaza Street, just off Molino Road. The fire was reported to be under control by about 4:57 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Molino, McDavid, Walnut Hill, Ensley, Ferry Pass and Bellview stations of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Bag Of Christmas Presents Found Near 9 1/2 Mile, Pine Forest Roads

A large bag of Christmas presents was found in the area of 9 1/2 Mile Road and Pine Forest Road on Christmas morning.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said they were wrapped in special paper and only first names were written on them.

Anyone that knows who the gifts may belong to is asked to call the ECSO Evidence Department on Monday, December 27 after 8 a.m. at (850) 436-9506

No Road Construction Traffic Delays This Week

Florida drivers will get a break from road construction through this week for the holidays.

There will be no lane closures or other activities that impede traffic on major state roads throughout the Florida panhandle ending at 12:01 a.m. Monday, January 3, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
