All Prisoners Accounted For After Incident At Century Prison Fence Tuesday Morning

A search was underway after an incident Tuesday morning outside the Century Correctional Institution on Tedder Road.

“All of the Century CI prisoners are accounted for,” Florida Department of Corrections Press Secretary Paul Walker told NorthEscambia.com. He said a prisoner count was conducted, confirming that there was no escape.

He said someone was outside a perimeter fence at the prison and fled toward a wooded area when spotted just before 8 a.m..

FDC officers and K-9 units, along with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, established a perimeter around the prison to look for the suspect. Walker said the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office was the primary agency in the search.

“We are looking for the person that trespassed on their property,” ECSO Chief Public Information Officer Amber Southard said at the time

FDC and ECSO officers were seen still on the perimeter, including at Lake Stone on West Highway 4. The prison perimeter is just a few hundred feet south of the lake.

The suspect was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. Additional details will be posted.

Man Charged With Home Burglary, Attempted Burglary Of Byrneville Community Center Arrested After Manhunt

A Flomaton man is facing charges after the alleged attempted burglary of the Byrneville Community Center and a home before leading deputies on a manhunt in Byrneville.

Tristan Lee Bell, 24, was charged attempted burglary of an unoccupied structure, burglary of an occupied dwelling, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported open door or window at the community center. They arrived to observe a white male wearing an orange shirt standing outside the building. Deputies noted two window screens had been removed from two windows of the community center.

Bell picked up a gray backpack and took off running into a wooded area on the west side of Byrneville Road, according to an arrest report. A deputy that entered the woods reported finding the backpack, a screwdriver, cutting pliers, Bell’s wallet, his phone and an orange t-shirt that was wrapped around a sunglasses case that contained methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

A deputy spotted Bell exit the wooded area without a shirt and run south on Byrneville Road before he entered another wooded area. When K-9 deputies arrived on scene, Bell was seen running south on Byrneville Road in the area of McBride Road. As officers were setting up a perimeter, they were informed that someone was breaking into a residence in the 1000 block of Byrneville Road.

A responding deputy captured Bell as he allegedly ran from the corner of the residence, about a mile and half from the community center.

The occupant of the home told deputies he did not notice anything was going on because of a hearing difficulty.

According to the ECSO, the blade on the screwdriver recovered from Bell matched the pry marks on the windows at the Byrneville Community Center.

Bell remained in the Escambia County Jail with bond set ta $9,500.

New Look, New Uniforms Coming For The Tate High School Showband Of The South

UPDATE: The purchase has been updated to 250 each of marching coats, bibber trousers, and Aussie hats; and 12 drum major coats and 12 drum major Aussie hats.

A new look is coming next year for the Tate High School Showband of the South.

The new band uniforms from Fruhauf Uniforms in Wichita, Kansas, are expected to arrive next spring.

The band will receive 300 bibber trousers, 300 marching coats, 300 Aussie hats and uniform management software. The total cost approved by Escambia County School Board was $97,764, based upon current band membership. Of that, $28,000 will come from the district’s general fund, and the $69,764 will balance will be paid from school internal accounts.

New RV Park Planned For Neal Road

A Molino woman is proposing to build an RV park on Neal Road in Cantonment.

If approved by the Escambia County Development Review Committee, the Magnolia RV Park will have 24 spaces will have septic tank service, water and electrical, according to an application filed by property owner Clorinda Baker. The access driveway will be concrete, while on-site driveways and RV spaces will be gravel.

The project will also include a 1,716 square foot building with an office, laundry, showers and bathrooms.

The Magnolia RV Park will be located on the north side of Neal Road, just west of Highway 95A on an 8.69 acre parcel. Plans call for 8.2 acres to be disturbed, with nine of 26 protected trees removed.

Deputies Believe Blackwater River Drowning Was Accidental

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office believes a Milton man drowned accidentally in he Blackwater River Sunday afternoon.

EMS found 40-year old Joseph Michael Rollo, 40, unconscious about 1:45 near Deaton Bridge. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies said there were no indications of foul play, and they waiting for autopsy results to rule out any underlying health factors.

“It is believed the victim unintentionally fell into the water while on the river,” SRSO Public Information Officer Sgt. Rich Aloy said.

James Edward Fausz

August 24, 2021

James Edward Fausz passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Pensacola, FL. He was born January 25, 1939, in Ft. Wayne, IN. Jim joined the military in 1957, retiring in 1978, as a LCDR. He spent the first six years as an unlisted service member, followed by attending Officer Candidate School (OCS), receiving his commission. Followed by flight school training to earn his wings flying the Skyraiders. He served four tours in Vietnam, two as a sailor and two tours as an aviator. Last duty station NAS Pensacola, serving as the flight deck officer on the USS Lexington.

Jim’s love of aviation especially WWII Warbirds aircraft led him to his second career as a Warbird Museum director. First in Mesa, AZ, followed by Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston, TX.

He would tell you that he had a wonderful and interesting life. He and Ann had a great life, sharing 45 years before her passing in 2019. He was proud of his children, grandchildren and couldn’t believe he had five great grands.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Ann S. Fausz; father, Walter Fausz and mother, Letha Mae Fausz.

James is survived by his daughter, Lori Gilmore (Gary); daughter, Cindy Beard (Doug); stepson, O. Glynn Rocka; granddaughter, Ashleigh Jones (Jeremy); granddaughter, Katie Leslie (Jordan); great grandchildren, Haleigh Floyd, Evan Floyd, Aubreigh Floyd, Presleigh Jones and Connor Leslie.

Visitation will be Friday, August 27, 2021, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 AM. Rev. John Webb will be officiating. Interment will be at Bayview Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ben Ballard, Bill Locker, Gary Gilmore, Doug Beard, CJ Beard and Jordan Leslie.

Louise Woods Jernigan

Louise Woods Jernigan, 89, received her heavenly crown on August 23, 2021. Louise was born on January 13, 1932 to George and Ollie Mae (Payne) Woods in Atmore, Alabama and was one of 12 siblings.
Louise married Glen Jernigan, her husband of 65 years on January 10, 1948. Together they built a successful business in the retail gasoline industry operating dozens of locations in Northwest Florida and Southern Alabama. In addition to being a caregiver and business partner to Glen, Louise found her greatest joy being a mother to her two daughters and then a proud and loving Nanny to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family, cooking and serving delicious meals. Louise loved the Lord and served Him faithfully both in her church and in the community.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband Glen, her parents, and her siblings: William Alfred Woods, Otis Woods, Ruby Lee Lambert, Estelle Parker, Edward Woods, Anne Dunne, Mary Willis, Gladys Petrantis, Thelma Sierra, and Hazel Mason.

Louise is survived by her daughters Cindy (Dirk) Lundquist and Cathy (Bobby) Payne; grandchildren Layla (Wes) Lundquist- Smith, Brandon (Crystal) Payne, Megan (Drew) Ard; great grandchildren Atakelt and Evangeline Smith, Savannah Payne, and Christian, Riley Ann and Greyson Ard; one sister, Freddie (Gaines) Pezent as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Charline Wetzel, the Memory Care staff of The Blake of Pensacola, Adam and Mandy at Emerald Coast Hospice, and Deneen Rowan.

The family will greet friends at Faith Chapel North from 1pm to 2pm on Sunday, August 29, 2021 with a service to begin at 2pm. Pastor Jeff McKee of Victory Assembly of God will be officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Cemetery.

Hazel McGhee Albritton

August 24, 2021

Mrs. Hazel McGhee Albritton, age 74, passed away, August 21, 2021 in Nokomis, AL. She was a lifelong resident of Atmore, AL. She worked several years at the Atmore Nursing Center as a dietary aide. She was a member of Gospel Light Chapel. She was a proud member of Poarch Band of Creek Indians.

Mrs. Albritton enjoyed working in her flower garden and cooking for family. She enjoyed going to the annual Pow Wow. Her grandchildren were the focus of her life and kept her going.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Norvie Lee McGhee and Mrs. Gladys Presley McGhee, husband, Lenard Albritton Jr., three brothers, Early McGhee, Norvie Lee McGhee Jr; Cecil McGhee, two sisters, Louise Turner, Betty Jane McVey, and granddaughter, Jordan Albritton.

She is survived by her two sons, Tim Albritton (Bethany) of Nokomis, AL; Olan Albritton (Geri Lynn) of Nokomis, AL; one daughter, Terri Breckenridge (Terrence) of Nokomis, AL; three brothers, Douglas McGhee, of Spanish Fort, AL; Ronnie McGhee, of Nokomis, AL; Huey McGhee, of Zion, Il; one sister, Eloise Ramer, of Gasden, AL; ten grandchildren, Logan, Hunter, Lylia, Addison, Silas, Drew, Chloe’, Temple, Sophia, Shepard, five great- grandchildren, Avaiha, Zadyn, Chasyn, Rylan, Oan, special niece, Christine Ward, special nephew, Michael McGhee, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Ray Ward officiating.

Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery.

COVID-19 Vaccine Available This Afternoon In Century

Community Health Northwest Florida will offer COVID-19 vaccines Tuesday afternoon in Century, in addition to other sites this week.

The back to school COVID-19 vaccination clinic for ages 12 and older will be held from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday at Community Health Northwest Florida Century Pediatrics at 501 Church Street. Siblings, parents, guardians, or any individuals age 18 are welcome to participate. Participants will have the choice of the Pfizer (ages 12+) or Johnson & Johnson (ages 18+) vaccine.

This week Community Health Northwest Florida, in partnership with Escambia County, will continue to operate its walk-in vaccination clinic inside Brownsville Community Center. The clinic is open to individuals age 18 and older every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants have the choice of the Moderna (two dose) or Johnson & Johnson (one and done) vaccine.
