Betty Sherrer Jackson, 1927-2021, age 93. Lifetime resident of Myrtle Grove in Pensacola, Florida; peacefully reunited with the Lord on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Born December 1, 1927 to Clarence H. Sherrer, and Mabel Adkinson Sherrer at the homestead in Myrtle Grove on 65th Avenue. Betty met, dated, and later married George M. Jackson on June 13, 1947. They raised two children, a daughter Marcia Jackson Gierisch and a son, George Douglas Jackson both of Pensacola. Betty attended Escambia County Schools, 1st through 12th grade, and then the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa 1945-1947. She returned home from Tuscaloosa, married George, and then raised a family. She decided to return to college at age 43 completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She graduated from the University of West Florida, with Summa Cum Laude honors in 1973. Betty re-entered Escambia Public Schools in 1974, this time as an educator and teacher. She retired in 1988 with 14 years of service at West Pensacola Elementary in Myrtle Grove, Fl. Ms. Betty was not an idle woman during those years of marriage to George and rearing kids. She taught Kindergarten at Sunnyside on New Warrington Road until she and her sister, Anna Mary, purchased the name and built a new location at 719 North 63rd Avenue in Myrtle Grove. Sunnyside Kindergarten and Nursery School was a private kindergarten in Myrtle Grove opened 1960-1970. When Ms. Betty retired in 1988, she started painting and earned several ribbons and awards. She was a member of Quayside Gallery in Pensacola.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years George M. Jackson, both parents, a sister Anna Mary Sherrer Roberts, and two brothers Thomas and Hubert Sherrer. She is survived by sister in law Louise Jackson, her two children, Marcia Jackson Gierisch and George Douglas (Doug) Jackson, both of Pensacola. Four grandchildren, Tiffany Jackson Martin (Glenn), Nikki Gierisch, Megan Gierisch, George Franklin Jackson (Ruth Ellen). Three great grandchildren, Lily Abells, Jack Abells and George Ellis Jackson. There are numerous nieces and nephews of the Boone, Kee, Jackson and Roberts families.
Arrangements will be handled by Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. On Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church, 1030 North 57th Avenue (and Lillian Highway), Pensacola, Florida.
Visitation will begin at 2pm, with Celebration of Life at 3pm, followed with interment after the service at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Following graveside committal, the family will receive guests at a reception in the church fellowship hall.
