Charles “Charlie” Vernon Wright

September 21, 2020

Charles “Charlie” Vernon Wright passed away on the morning of September 6, 2020. Born on November 13, 1954 in Panama City to a military family, he lived many places in his life, but he always called Pensacola, FL his home. He graduated from Woodham High School in 1972 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1973 where he was able to continue his travels living in South Dakota, Thailand and California, respectively. After he completed his time in the Air Force, he returned home to Pensacola, but shortly thereafter he moved to live with his two best friends in Texas. In Texas is where he found his calling and joined this United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier, which he retired from in March of 2018.

He returned to Pensacola and met and married the love of his life, Merry. They were married on September 17, 1988 and not only did he gain a wife, but he also gained a daughter, Michelle. In September of 1994, Charlie and Merry welcomed a son, David.

Charlie’s family meant everything to him. When his children were younger, you could always find him at every event, whether it be a Girl Scout meeting, a football or baseball game, play or program. This continued with his grandchildren, you could always find him cheering on his grandsons from the stands at baseball games or at karate belt promotions.

Charlie was known for his love of Greenbay football, Chinese buffets, and talking to strangers. In fact, Charlie never met a stranger. He was loved by everyone he met, and people often commented how kind and caring he was, and how fiercely he loved his family.

After his retirement in 2018 he was able to take a once in a lifetime trip with his wife and church family to Israel. He was able to see and experience the places that Jesus walked and remembered his baptism in the Jordan River.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Florence Wright and infant brother.

He is survived by his wife Merry; his children Michelle (Justin) Nicholas and David (Breanna) Wright; grandchildren Jacob and Jayce Nicholas and Catalya Smith; sister Linda (Paul) Hudson; brother Larry (Mary Jean) Wright; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, September 12th at Bellview United Methodist Church located at 4945 Saufley Field Road, Pensacola, FL 32526. Friends and family are welcome at 1 pm and service will begin at 2 pm. We kindly ask that you bring a mask to wear inside of the Church.
