Animal Control: Cantonment Woman Gave Injections To Kitten That Died; Collected Dead Animals

A Cantonment woman has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly performing injections on cats and collecting dead animals.
Selena Dunlap, 21, was charged with felony unlicensed practice of veterinary medicine and cruelty to animals.
Escambia County Animal Control responded to a home in the 1300 block of Tate Road after receiving a reported that Dunlap was “injecting cats with food”.
An animal control officer reported that she could see a couple of cats and dogs inside the home. When she asked about a kitten, Dunlap and her roommates said it was inside the trailer. Eddins asked Dunlap to show her what they were injecting the cat with when Dunlap brought out a bottle of sodium chloride.
When the officer was invited inside to see a kitten, she noted that the home was filled with old food, trash, cigarette butts and a dog kennel covered in blankets. Dunlap was holding the kitten, according to an arrest report, and said she had been giving it sugar water, watered down milk and antibotics.
Dunlap showed the animal control officer a needle she said she bought online, and the officer observed a magazine on a table with the title “Secrets To Being a Vet Tech”.
The officer said the kitten was not able to hold its head up. It was taken to the Escambia County Animal Shelter for care. It later died.
The report adds back in October 2019, Dunlap’s dad contacted animal control stating she was living in a tent in the woods and collected dead animals and had live animals as well. When animal control responded to Dunlap’s tent, she stated she had seven dogs and eight cats. Puppies were found covered in fleas.
Animal control removed 12 animals from Dunlap and ordered her to bury the dead animals.
Dunlap remained in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $6,000.

I was a mental health RN at a large local prison. Most of these folks are playing games. They believe if they are on psych meds they will get a state check for life when they are released.
this woman needs the same injection she gave to that poor kitten. I am an animal lover especially cats.
What about the animals? Where is she getting these animals, anyone missing their pet? this is creepy. Poor animals at the mercy of an unstable being. Very sick and sad.
All of y’all saying she shouldn’t be in jail need to realize something. One reason we have jails is to protect the innocent from the dangerous people. She is definitely dangerous. If you’re dead, do you think it makes you any less dead if your killer was crazy rather than just pure evil?
Anybody who can kill a poor kitten is either crazy or heartless. Either way, I don’t want somebody like that walking the streets free to do as they please.
@Doug, well, she won’t get treatment in jail. The only thing she’s likely to get is heavily medicated. That’s it. She needs more than being turned into a zombie.
@Tabby she needs both jail time and treatment. Best part about going to jail is that she will never miss a court imposed psych treatment.
It’s evident this girl has some mental issues. I hope she can get the help she needs.
I think it is pretty clear this lady is not a good candidate for jail, it would not help here in any way. She is obviously a good candidate for our great psychiatric services offered through Lakeview. I hope she can get the meds and therapy she needs.
Maybe her parents lacked something when it comes to raising children she is young and impressionable dont burn at the cross yet give her a chance she might have a gift she has not harnessed but it is crazy but so is life write know maybe God will find her before ???

It sounds like she was trying to help the animals… she seems mentally ill and needs help. I can definitely say one thing though, compared to some of the commenters here, she is a well-adjusted individual.
Tee Bug- Do you know that for a fact? If you do, you must know her and should have gotten her help before innocent creatures suffered at her hands. In the end, it doesn’t matter “what she meant” by it, she caused death of a living creature. There are many mentally ill people who em ever do that and would never dream of doing that.
You ppl who think no big deal, she was being watched by several ppl on social media doing all kinds of questionable things to animals. They finally were able to act on her behavior. Nothing to do with “needing mental help”… everything to do with being pure evil.
This young lady did not mean any harm to anyone or harm to the animals she is mentally impaired and needs the right kind of guidance her intentions were good and she just doesn’t know the right way to give care to these critters

They used to do just that, sterilize mentally ill people. In Nazi Germany in the ’30’s and ’40’s.
You’re right, John. We should definitely overlook this killing of animal(s?) since it wasn’t a human. This girl is crazy and we now have proof. Do we just wait until she kills a human and then take her seriously? Animals are living beings.

Saying she should be under the jail might be just a little much! When you have child rapist walking the streets. Some type of counseling would be great. She hasn’t brought harm to fellow humans.
I’m not a softy at all, but there are some very strong hints here of some mental health issues. I hope she gets some help.
Anyone who harms animals is worthless. Animals give unconditional love whether people deserve it or not. If you have not heart for animals, just realize that hurting animals is almost always a precursor to killing/hurting humans. This girl should be under the jail.
I’m no softie but this girl is sick. She needs some type of supervision sure. Not jail though. She needs help.
Maybe getting her some psychiatric help would be a good thing?
