According to a statement, ECUA is immediately suspending the discontinuation of services for non-payment during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

This will apply to all residential and commercial accounts and will be in effect until further notice.

Will you be penalizing people with late fees if they can’t pay on time?

It’s the commendable thing to do during this time and my hat’s off to ECUA.

Many people’s work hours are being cut through no fault of their own. Without these kinds of measures, many would have their utilities cut off for nonpayment and there’s no need to make an already difficult situation worse.

I have a full-time professional career, but I also work a second part-time job to provide for my family. My second job has been suspended indefinitely and I’m already feeling the financial strain. So I know that there are good, honest, hardworking people who pay their bills out there that will need this kind of help before this is over with.

@Mike… it’s a temporary reprieve. Services are not free and will accrue on their bill which they will still have to pay – they just won’t be shut off during the height of this unprecedented crisis if payment cannot be made.
It’s the right thing to do.
