Former Escambia District Employee Charged With Having Sexual Relationship With Tate High Student

December 2, 2019

A former Escambia County School District employee has been arrested on charges related to an alleged ongoing sexual relationship with a Tate High School student.

Susan Elizabeth Weddle, age 40 of Cantonment, is charged with felony sexual battery on a victim 16 or 17 years old,  lewd and lascivious behavior with a victim 12-16 year old, and using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

On November 22, a male Tate student alleged he was having sex with “forty year old” Susan Weddle, according to an arrest report. The student told a school counselor about the relationship, and said his mother was aware of the allegation and had taken his cell phone away from him because she discovered text messages between him and Weddle.

A witness reported seeing the victim and Weddle kissing at her house, the report states.

When interviewed by authorities, the student confessed to having sex with Weddle “several hundred times” over about a year and half beginning when he was 15-years old at locations that included her house, his house, the beach and her vehicle. The student stated he believed he was in love with Weddle, and they pair routinely shared nude photographs by phone. He stated those phones have been destroyed or factory reset. He said the relationship started in October 2018 when he was at her house because he was friends with her son.  The Tate student said he became intoxicated and persuaded her to have sex with him, according to an arrest report.

A witness said he saw Weddle and the student kissing in the kitchen during a party at her house, and he said the student admitted to having sex with Weddle after the party. He also told investigators that he saw a video he believed showed the student having sex with Weddle, but no faces could be seen in the video.

The student told investigators that during their relationship, Weddle provided him with an iPhone, necklace and bracelet, but they were gifts, not payment for anything.

Weddle’s statements to investigators are redacted from an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office report.

If this was a 15 year old girl and 40 year old man would it be the same? No because then he would be a predator. Boys can be manipulated and talked into things just like girls can. The law is that under age 16 you are not able to consent. This is never okay and contrary to many of you people’s beliefs it leaves a scar on a young man when a predator does this just like it does a female. Do you really think a 15 year old that can not drive alone is old enough to make a decision like this no..he was persuaded and he is still a child..he can’t drive alone, drink legally, buy cigarettes, serve in the military, work most places…but you think he is old enough to make a decision to have sex with a 40 year old and that is ok? He is still a child and she is a child molester plain and simple.

First of all, this child stated he initiated the relationship. So he knew it was wrong. Second, like others have said, if he would have killed her for saying “no”, he would have been tried as an adult and everyone would want HIS head. But since it is “an innocent child” y’all want her head? I laugh. Talk to your kids about this stuff. Be open and honest. Maybe it won’t get this far in the first place.

So many lives ruined because of locker room talk.

  3. Tate Thoughts on December 5th, 2019 8:35 pm

If he killed her, he’d be charged as an adult/ he knew what he was doing. If he pursues her and sleeps with her, he’s a naive little child. Interesting.

  4. tate mom on December 4th, 2019 11:48 pm

I hate this for her children and family. Never in a million years would I have expected this from her. It is insane that people blame the child…he is a guy and he is 15…too young to know how to handle this situation. She is a predator and guess what not the only one in this are…her family is just does not have ties to law enforcement to cover it up for her. Quit blaming the kids these women prey on what they can control because rhey are sick in the head.

you can say or determine all day long to anyone listening that the kid didn’t mind.

First off, maybe he did mind. There’s a lot of peer pressure on males to have sex and all the psychological explanations that go with that.
Whether she is a teacher or in administration, with the school system, she is still in a position of authority over this kid.
Maybe the mom did know and she had the kid turn this situation over to the counselor, everyone is assuming so much and it’s our nature but before you condemn this mother, let her have her day in court to explain what happened. She doesn’t owe any of us an explanation.

This is so sad… I can’t understand why she would throw away everything that she worked so hard for. My heart hurts for her boys…. very selfish on her part. Her boys still have to attend school. I hope that they don’t ridiculed for their Mother’s unimaginable actions. The boys need our prayers and the other family that is affected by her unimaginable actions.

call it a double standard all you want, the kid didn’t mind. so?

  8. Citizen on December 4th, 2019 9:09 am

Be real people… she is a PEDOPHILE!

Just as a man who engaged in the same would be a pedophile.
We would demand justice be served on a man who did this and the same justice should be served on her.

She also engaged in child pornography.
She also allowed children to drink and get drunk at her home, and likely bought the alcohol for them and likely drank with them… then sent them off in their cars onto the road.

It doesn’t matter if the kid knew what he was doing or not and was a willing participant or not. He is not of legal age… period.

Those of you that think any differently are proof of just how sick our society has become!

“having sex” you should change it to read ” being raped”

if the positions were switched and it was a 40 year old man having sex with a 15 year old student you would all be calling for his death

    The law works both ways

Where were these women when I was in HS?

  11. Lou on December 3rd, 2019 9:47 pm

My heart breaks for this young man; this woman’s bad judgement and for her sons. How many lives have changed because of this terrible judgement. She alone made this decision to cross the line of becoming a selfish predator. None of those involved will ever be the same. Susan could’ve made a difference in many young lives in a positive way….such a shame and waste. I pray for you, your family and the young man and his family. Peace be with you all is my prayer.

  12. paul on December 3rd, 2019 8:01 pm

Ah high school…good times, good times!

  13. Stephen on December 3rd, 2019 7:12 pm

So, you’re old enough to be charge as an adult for murder, but you not old enough to accept your part of the responsibility for instigating and willingly participating in something you KNEW was wrong.

    That seems legit.

This kid is as much as a victim as Osama Bin Laden was on 9/11.

Also, his mother allegedly knew about this happening and she never reported it to the proper authorities, it was only after the school guidance counselor found out? Isn’t a mother supposed to protect her child? Why is she not being charged with child neglect for knowing this was going on and not reporting it?

And before I get attacked, if true, then she deserves to be punished and I am not condoning what she allegedly did. However, he is old enough to know right and wrong and he deserves just as much blame in the situation.

He perused her, and would not stop until she gave in, HE IS NO VICTIM

  15. MR REALITY on December 3rd, 2019 4:50 pm

  16. Bartender on December 3rd, 2019 2:28 pm

When are these ladies gona learn the boys brag to other boys an she was stupied to send texts to him.why put her in jail cause it takes two to tango.he knew what he was doing.he is not a baby.

  17. Tate parent on December 3rd, 2019 1:05 pm

She was a elementary school teacher before moving to the HALL CENTER

  18. David on December 3rd, 2019 10:45 am

There needs to be penalties for the youths also who do this
They know its wrong or they would not hide
You can try and rationalize the psychological aspects of these situations but still…at that age…you knew it was wrong…thats both parties age..victim and the perpetrator

  19. No Excuses on December 3rd, 2019 10:21 am

    @Rufus

Where does it say she is a teacher? I saw nothing to indicate that in the article. Only that she was a District Employee.

  20. Bill on December 3rd, 2019 9:27 am

Now you can’t tell me this woman didn’t know that there was always a possibility of getting caught and going to jail. So with this being said it time for you to do to jail. Hopefully the sentence will be long enough that when you get out you will have No desire to have any kind of sexual activity!!!!!!

  21. Daughter of Chester on December 3rd, 2019 9:18 am

Computers and other electronic devices…. where most of this activity begins… Home schooling will not protect “Little Johnny” from this one…… She was not employed at a school per-say. Just a school district employee. (off campus admin type)

  22. mnon on December 3rd, 2019 9:06 am

She’ll get a slap on the wrist. If this were a 40 year old man at a school and a 15 year old girl; the man would be looking at life in prison. Even some of the comments here reflect societies double standard. in cases like this.

  23. molino resident on December 3rd, 2019 8:08 am

Honey you need to find someone closer to your age!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Just saying on December 3rd, 2019 6:34 am

I definitely would not have told anyone about what we had going on he probably got mad she wouldn’t let him get none anymore

  25. Rufus on December 3rd, 2019 6:12 am

Here we go again, female teacher and male student. Get over it folks, the laws need changing. As usual, the student seduced the teacher. Every school boys dream!

  26. A on December 3rd, 2019 5:10 am

Geez, Lady! Leave the children alone. You are the adult. You suck. And stay away from my sons.

  27. William N. on December 3rd, 2019 3:46 am

    Emilee Turner –

You are not correct for a couple of reasons. No person under the age of 16 can have consensual sex so there is the first felony. Once a person is 16, they can have consenual sex with a person up to the age of 24 so your 16 year old child can be in a relationship with a 23 year old.

Now lets add the possession of nude photographs of said child and the transmital of said photographs/videos by using a cellualr phone. Additionally add in the “gifts” and you can also push prostitution since it’s a payment or receiving an item in exchange for a sexual act.

So to summerize, no this isn’t a legal relationship and you don’t need the son or mother to pursue charges but it does make it easier to obtain evidence.

  28. Kane on December 3rd, 2019 2:31 am

@ Really and Emilee…….Can you kindly post your sources of information please? It is easy to make your opinons seem like facts but without real proof ie: the names of those studies @Really and the news articles about the teacher/student relationships of the past Emilee?

Here let me show you how it is done.

@Emilee the parent does not have any right or say so whether the State of Florida press charges for statutory rape it is up to the state. Furthermore Statutory rape exceptions i.e. the “Romeo/Juliet” law only applies to adults between the ages of 18-24 and minors aged 16-17. This woman is clearly listed as being 40 way past statutory here.

Here have a link and educate yourself before you pull “facts” out of your butt.

  29. jason ward on December 3rd, 2019 12:52 am

Bet that kid didn’t want to skip school

  30. Emilee Turner on December 3rd, 2019 12:38 am

Technically, if the mother or the son didn’t want to press charges, this relationship could continue. As shocking as it sounds, contrary to popular belief and medias, this has happened a LOT back in the 40’s 50’s 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s ….. its just recently become criminalized.

    Just sayin!

  31. Really? on December 2nd, 2019 11:53 pm

They’re called child molesters. It’s not really discussed much, but men are not the sex offenders out there. Women who do this have the same urges, only difference is their gender. Studies done recently revealed that 43 to 79 percent of sex offenders, that force sex, were women offenders.

  32. Perplexed on December 2nd, 2019 11:02 pm

It’s gotta be somethin’ in the water. I’m a middle aged female, single and free to date anyone I wish to. But WHY WHY WHY do these women go after kids! I raised two of my own. Don’t intend to raise another one. I’ll never understand the attraction some women have for young boys. It’s sick.
