An early morning fire heavily damaged a home in Byrneville on Thursday.

The fire was reported at 4:14 a.m. in the 1500 block of West Highway 4, about a half mile east of Byrneville Road. The concrete block home was reported to be fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene.

Everyone in the home was able to escape the blaze; there were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire was not immediately known and is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshals Office.

The fire is at least the fifth residential fire of December and the fifth red bulb in Escambia County’s annual Keep The Wreath Green fire safety campaign.

Let this remind us that working smoke alarms save lives !! Fire can and does strike at any hour and having working smoke alarms and an escape plan can save you and your family. If you need a smoke detector you can call ECFR at 595-HERO or in Pensacola city limits, (850) 436-5200

It was heartbreaking for me to learn of this… My grandmother spent many years of her married life in this house and my mom lived here for several years. I sure do have a lot of good memories at this house

My heart goes out to this family. Having lost my home via fire last year, I understand to an extent the feeling of loss and being overwhelmed. Prays of peace and comfort. Everyone is alive, you can rebuild and just remember, it is just stuff. May God bless you and your family
