November 22, 2019

A woman crossing the road in a wheelchair was struck and killed Thursday night in Escambia County.

The 70-year old woman was crossing Old Palafox near Van Pelt Lane in a wheelchair about 6:23 p.m. The Florida Highway Patrol said 37-year old Stephen Hicks of Pensacola was unable to see her in time to avoid a crash due to limited lighting in the area.

The woman was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital where she later died. Her name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.

Absolutely terrible thing to happen, prayers for her family and friends, and prayers for the poor man that accidentally hit her…I can’t imagine
