Molino Man Charged With Theft Of Trailers, Equipment Worth $91,000

November 22, 2019

A Molino man was booked into the Escambia County Jail Monday on charges related to the theft of trailers and equipment valued at $91,000.

Rex Burton Hassell, 59,  was charged with grand theft, two counts of larceny, five counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle, and criminal mischief with property damage. Hassell remained in the Escambia County Jail Friday with bond set at $51,000.

Hassell allegedly took a Bobcat mini excavator valued at $18,000 from Gateway Lane. The excavator suffered an estimated $10,000 in damage after it was stolen, according to an arrest report.

He is also accused of stealing a 48-foot flatbed trailer valued at $10,000, four Texas Pride dump trailers worth a total of $24,000 from 10 Mile Road, and a $21,000 welder and welding lead worth $500 from a business on Highway 95A in Cantonment. Hassell is also accused of taking a trailer worth $17,500 from a road construction project on Highway 29.

All of the items were located on a farm near Andalusia, Alabama.

An investigator from the Escambia County (FL) Sheriff’s Office went to Andalusia as part of an ongoing grand theft and stolen property investigation. During the investigation, numerous stolen vehicles and trailers were located.

The Covington County (AL) Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Glisson Road west of Andalusia. During the search, Hassell’s Florida drivers license was located in a shop building, and the property owner said Hassell brought the vehicles and trailers to his farm and parked them there, according to an arrest report.

A thief is a thief. No amount of prayer will fix that. Wish we could go back to cutting people’s hands off for stealing

How about some prayers for the people he STOLE things from? He knew he was doing wrong, but continued on with it! The REAL victims are the people and businesses he decided to take things from. At his age he knew better and it’ll take more than a prayer to fix that!

Fifty five years has passed since we first met. I hope that your time behind bars is not too long, but long enough for you to get your self in good order. Prayers for you Rex and all of us.
