Hazmat Team Responds To Incident At Century Prison. Here’s What They Found.
November 23, 2019
A hazardous materials team investigated a suspicious piece of mail with a strange chemical smell was reported Friday afternoon at the Century Correctional Institution.
The Escambia County Fire Rescue hazardous materials team responded and determined the smell originated from a disinfectant wipe taped inside an envelope, according to an Escambia County spokesperson.
The envelope was apparently mailed to the facility on Tedder Road in Century and delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. There was no official word if it was sent an inmate, but the facility does open, examine and read all routine mail sent to inmates according to Florida Department of Corrections protocol.
The envelope was reportedly taken a location outside the administration building, which is just outside the main gate.
The Florida Department of Corrections did not provide any further information.

Jerry, contraband is hidden under stamps, in seams of envelopes, and glued into cards. It is never known what sinister crap someone try to smuggle in through incoming mail. Maybe you don’t get that fact that these are not choir boys and their “family and friends” will try to get them contraband even at the risk of harming those who handle the mail.
Criminals don’t get 24 hour confectioneries and personal maids. Imagine being punished for doing wrong.
They are probably unfamiliar with cleaning supplies might be the first time they had something sanitary in the building
