DeSantis Fills ECUA Board Seat Empty For 10 Months

November 27, 2019

After a 10-month vacancy, Florida’s governor has filled a vacant seat on the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority.

Tuesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Cedric Alexander to the District 3 seat that was left empty after the death of board member Elvin McCorvey on January 20.

Alexander, a Pensacola native, is a retired law enforcement executive. He began his career as a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office in 1977. He served as a police officer and detective in Orlando and Miami, as deputy chief and chief of police of the Rochester Police Department in New York and as federal security director with the United States Department of Homeland Security overseeing the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

In 2013, he was appointed chief of police for DeKalb County, Georgia and later transitioned to deputy chief operating officer/public safety director for the department. He served as deputy mayor for the City of Rochester. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and his master’s degree in family therapy from St. Thomas University and his doctorate in clinical psychology from Wright State University.

None of the board have a background in wastewater if you were to look at their resumes.

The county commissioners have been having their own share of corruption issues so handing over ecua leadership to them would be a grave mistake.

the dist 5 and those on the west side of town get very little from the leaders of the county, and excuses from the dist 5 leader, local options sales TAX is supposed to help FIX the problems, not you don’t deserve any county help..shame on our leaders for stealing LOST funds and using for county operations,, they sould be held ACCOUNTABLE..

Just sad the way ECUA raises rates year after year with no accountability to the hard working citizens of Escambia Ct. ThePay the board members receive for the little wrk the actually do is ridiculous.Time for tax payers to stand up and Vote them out!!

I need to say no more. Thank you Jay.

The County Commissioners need more to do. So they should take over the Board at ECUA and free up the money going out to salaries. BUT, there is one problem there. I can contact any Board Member at ECUA and get a prompt response to my issue. You can contact a County Commissioner and you get no response. Do they even read their emails or check their voice messages?

Have a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone !

Nice resume for someone going in the law enforcement or therapy field. What background does he have with water and sewage treatment plants? No offence to him but wouldnt it be better to put someone in that position who has a background in what the company does and how it works vs someone who knows how to “shake hands and kiss babies” as the other career elected officer do. Just saying……

Th PNJ and North Escambia make a big point that the Governor waited 10 months to fill this seat, sort of a disparaging addition I think! In reality the whole board could take off 10 months and nobody would know! The only reason they need the board is to raise rates, which the do, frequently! The County Commissioners should run tnis operation anyway! They only separated to share the public outrage over rates!
