Two Young Women Critically Injured In Fiery Crash In Gonzalez

October 3, 2019

Two people were critically injured in a fiery crash in Gonzalez Wednesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 19-year old Paige Roberts of Pensacola was traveling north of Pauline Street north of East Kingsfield Road when she ran off the roadway and struck a tree about 10:30 p.m. Her 2011 Chevrolet Cruze then burst into flames. Bystanders tried unsuccessfully to free the two occupants of the vehicle.

Escambia Fire Rescue arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze before over a dozen first responders worked to extricate Roberts and her passenger,  18-year old Ashlynne Goins of Pace.

Both suffered serious injuries including significant burns, troopers said.

Roberts was  airlifted by LifeFlight helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital, and Goins was transported by Escambia County EMS to Sacred. Both were later transferred to the USA Health Burn Center in Mobile.

The FHP said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Roberts is 2019 graduate of Northview High School, while Goins is a senior.

Has anyone heard anything else on how these girls are doing ?

I’m praying for Paige. I realized I couldnt get them out of the car I held her arm arm so she knew I wasn’t going to leave. I literally screamed at the firefighters when they drove up to put the rest of the fire out. They had angels with them for sure. The fact anyone made it out of that car is a Miracle. Please let us know how they are doing.

I pray these young ladies make a full recovery. Thank goodness there are still decent people in society willing to step in and help, not thinking of their own safety.

I would like to thank the bystanders and and first responders who helped extinguish the fire and free my daughter and her friend Ashlynne from the car after the accident. Both girls have a long road to recovery but if not for your help and the grace of God they might not be with us today. Please keep them in your prayers. Thank you.

It is so refreshing to hear neighbors coming to help and no cell phones videoing.
Thank you first responders. Good job by all. That’s the American Way.
    Praying for these girls.

    Hope they recover quickly….

I don’t work for “NTSB’ but the resulting crash damage isn’t a reflection of a late model auto traveling the posted speed limit…

There was 5-6 people there before the firefighters came. We put the engine fire out and broke the windows so the women could breath. The cabin was full of smoke and people driving by stopped to help save these girls. Not one person had their phones out to video it. We were all trying to save lives. Thank god for the neighbors around this wreck because the outcome could have been worse. We got the engine fire out but after we got the doors opened the center console reignited and that’s when the firefights drove up. The tree it hit was literally on fire.

Gosh, just kids. Praying for good recovery for them and for all drivers to concentrate on nothing but driving when behind the wheel.

Brian-This is a good idea! I have used it on a vehicle on fire. It didn’t completely put the fire out but it gave the person time to get out of the car with their belongings.

Very sad. Makes me think about putting a fire extinguisher in the truck.
