October 18, 2019

Schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa County are in session on Friday, but after school extracurricular activities including football have been canceled.

Friday extracurricular activities have been canceled including football games.

Tate High School’s homecoming game against Washington has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The Friday morning pep rally has been canceled. The homecoming dance Saturday night will go on as planned from 8 p.m. to midnight.

An updated list of rescheduled times for football is available here.

The Byrneville Elementary School Fall Carnival has also been canceled and will be rescheduled.

“Although current projections for this storm track for Tropical Storm Nestor indicate that our area will be spared the greatest part of the storm, the district does not want students to travel during inclement weather. On Saturday, October 19, 2019, the district will resume outside activities scheduled after noon,” Superintendent Malcolm Thomas said.

As of late Thursday night, Escambia County, Alabama, schools are monitoring the weather. All schools will be open on Friday and all extra-curricular activities are set to proceed as scheduled.

    @ Unhappy

So like you’d be “Happy” sitting in the football stadium for two hours in this rain and cool temps which will be getting chillier after sundown?
Your coffee would get cold quicker and the hot dog buns will get soggy.
Not my idea of where I want to be.

Unhappy… Yea. Lets cancel school and academics so we can have football games and dances. Get real. Outside activities are great, but we hat is. It the purpose of school.

This is the best we could do? Ruin all the fun things but keep school open? Sad
