Plans Resubmitted For New Convenience Store At Hwy 29, Hwy 97 In Molino

October 1, 2019

Developers have headed back to the Escambia County Development Review Committee with plans for a new convenience store the intersection of Highway 29 and Highway 97 in Molino.

The pre-application drawings submitted the Development Review Committee show a slightly scaled-down store compared to plans considered earlier this year for the 8.22 acre property.

Drawings that went before the committee in January showed a 6,000 square foot store, while the new plans show the store to be about 4,700 square feet with two additional gas pumps.

The property is owned by DGS Holdings of Atmore. In late 2017, plans were submitted to Escambia County by s Diamond Gasoline of Atmore for a convenience store on the property, but that project was not completed.

The Escambia County Development Review Committee will hold a pre-application meeting on store plans this week. Before construction could begin, the plans must go through several more steps in the county approval process. At the pre-application stage, there is no assurance that plans will ever reach the construction stage or that the facility will have the currently outlined layout.

Hang on to your britches folks! We will be complaining about the exact same thing Beulah currently is, in the near future.
    Buckle up!

Since it’s been so hot, how about a giant splash pad and water park?

It won’t matter whats proposed, there is going to be someone who don’t like it. I’m sure if Wal-Mart had the market study and thought a Marketplace store would succeed, they would build one. As for the new house next door, if you build a house on a major highway just off of a major intersection, its just a matter of time before you’re in the middle of a business district.

It would be great to have a GROCERY STORE here in MOLINO! Doesn’t have to a name brand store, just a store with prices comparable to Walmart. WE NEED A GROCERY STORE HERE IN MOLINO!!

I’m not positive, but I doubt Diamond Gasoline has the power to just snap their fingers and put in a Walmart Grocery store instead… especially since they are in the gas station business.

Yep, just what America needs, another gas station.

A Wally Neighborhood Market would be cool, no going all the way to Ensley for stuff. A Supercenter is too much to hope for, but i notice Ensley is outta stuff a good bit of the time, so any Wally out this way would be cool. C’mon Wally! :D

How do some of you think things get built, do you think the county commission goes into a secret room and plans out what will go where? That’s not how this works, someone or a group of someone’s submits a proposal and it is reviewed to see if it according to the laws and rules. It’s private property, those people can build whatever they want, as long it is done to code. If you want something else there, I suggest you buy the property and build it, it really is that simple.

Wal-Mart grocery store would be great!! They also have a gas station for competative gas prices. Just a thought.

What the people really need is a neighborhood Walmart out in that area! The only stores the people have to travel to is either to Century or back down to Cantonment!! Why the heck build another convenience store across from an existing one? That’s no logical thinking at all!

Would be nice if they built this near McDonalds in Flomaton. Would catch East and west traffic also not just North and South. Plus there is no station there big enough for large trucks. And I’m sure the land is cheaper.

William this isn’t like the “truck stop” that was proposed earlier which I had big concerns with and even shared my letter to the commission with you. I do regret the fact that a new home sits right next door to this store.
Thanks for posting this and please keep up informed as you always do.

Just……………WHY? We have Tom Thumb. How’s about a Grocery Store or a Chick fil A, or Captain D’s.? Why another Convenience Store? Makes no sense. Especially on the same side of the road as Tom Thumb. Would make more sense on the other side of Hwy. 29. Then, it WOULD be more convenient for people headed north. Who thinks of this stuff?

Another option besides the crowded Tom Thumb would be nice, maybe more competition would result in one or the other having a little cheaper gas price.
