Century Charter Review Committee Holds First Meeting

October 4, 2019

The people tasked with shaping the future of Century’s charter attended the committee’s first meeting Thursday afternoon.

Members of the Town of Century Charter Review Committee learned about the Sunshine Law and public records requirements in the meeting with town attorney Matt Dannheisser. Two town council members, Sandra McMurray-Jackson and Luis Gomez, also attended the meeting.

The committee is tasked with exploring the town charter – the document that establishes the town, outlines its powers and spells out how it should operate. The current Century charter has not been updated in almost 40 years.

Additional meeting dates will be announced at a later time.

That looks like King Hawkins in attendance. Just can’t let it go. Doesn’t he see he has already fouled up enough in that town?

Is the public allowed to attend these meetings?
I saw three men in attendance (one being a Council member) and I thought the committee was made up of only women.
I am hoping decisions can be made without outside influence.
Some changes need to be made if Century has any chance of recovering from all going on at Town Hall.

That noise you hear is the can being kicked farther down the road.

Are the council members and Mayor allowed to verbally participate in the committee discussions? I can see this becoming a manipulative ploy to sway the committee recommendations resulting in this whole process developing into a farce.
