Van Crosses Center Lane, Sideswipes Car On Highway 29

September 5, 2019

At least two people were transported to the hospital after a van sideswiped a car on Highway 29 in Century Thursday afternoon.

Video from a nearby surveillance camera showed the northbound van cross the center lane into the southbound lane and collide with the car.  The driver of the car was temporarily trapped in her vehicle until she was extricated by firefighters. Her injuries did not appear to be serious.

The crash closed the southbound lanes of Highway 29 for over an hour. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.

Escambia County EMS, the Century Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Flomaton Fire Department and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

I drive that hwy everyday.. state troopers have been on that road along with sheriffs, and they were actually pulling people over. But yes, that does not stop the idiots on their phones or zig zagging between lanes to get ahead of traffic.. most are on that hwy now due to the construction on pine forest, muskogee and all other ones around that area.. ever since Navy Federal started building their new place and then all these subdivisions going in along with power poles, etc.. the traffic on hwy 29 has gotten worse.. heaven help us when all the new families move in that will be working there

Time to rethink Highway 29. Accidents everyday. Maybe put a traffic light at each intersection to slow speeding drivers and discourage drivers using 29. A police presence and actual police pulling over speeders would help.

I was on that highway today and watched drivers go in/out of lanes with no signals. I watched one person texting and talking to passenger at same time I watched people run thru red lights ECT.. I was VERY glad to get off road. NOT a Cop in sight. ( All at bridge change over) I do hope everyone will be alright.
