Century Now Accepting Applications For A City Manager

September 19, 2019

The Town of Century is now accepting applications for a city manager.

The town describes the ideal candidate as “qualified and highly motivated”, and requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration or a related field, plus five years of experience in local government administration of a senior management position.

The salary is listed as negotiable based upon experience, and the application period ends November 1.

The city manager will serve as the chief executive officer of the town, be responsible for the management of day-to-day operations, attend all town council meetings and supervise all departments, according to the job description.

The town council voter earlier this month to hire a city manager to run daily operations while naming consultant Buz Eddy as interim town manager until a permanent hire is made. Eddy said he will not be applying for the permanent position.

Eddy’s new title of interim city manager is the same independent contractor basis that he he’s worked under since July 29. In August, the council authorized up to $5,000 to pay him at $35 an hour for his services.

Eddy was city manager of Gulf Breeze from 1992-2017.

    @IMHO

You mean the $12,496 a year 5 figure salary.

This is “we broke” Century you’re talking about.

But really, hopefully this will be a good thing. Depends on who is hired.

The Mayor can’t be recalled. He was ineffective.
    This needs to be done.
    More good news.

    some have read the charter

This is a work around. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Sorry..can’t close us down that easy.

Someone needs to read the charter. Page 2 Article 2 states the Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the town/ Section 3 B the mayor has general supervision over all town affairs and direct and supervise the administration of all departments, offices, and agencies of the town, except as other wise provided by state law. The charter can only be changed by a vote of the people. Why are the citizens going to have to pay for a position that they have already voted for someone to do. If the present mayor cant do or wont do then get rid of him and elect someone that will do the job. The Town of Century cannot afford to pay the kind of salary they will have to pay to get a qualified person. It appears to me that certain individuals want things their way and and will stop at nothing to get it done. What happen to the charter review committee, someone must not like the people that was willing to give their time. Come on council quit letting one woman run the show

I’m sure that managers with Bachelor’s Degrees will be lining up to come work for the town of Century. Best laugh I’ve had all week.

I will say this, if and when someone is hired they need a back bone to stand up to each and every one to get this town in shape. This has gone on to long for this town to be in this kind of shape. Check it once and then twice to have all your ducks in a row.

Let me guess, a candidate with none of the qualifications will apply and be hired just because she’s friends with Hawkins and sleeping with the gas superintendent….

Oh wait, we already filled that position.

@ New to Century, Enjoy paying those higher taxes to pay for that five figure salary. Ya

The mayor is responsible for this mess. Why is he still there?

The requirements for this position suggests this will be posted in a larger demographic than Century. Is Century prepared to pay high 5 figures-low 6 figures to someone to intice them to move to Century?

I think this is a position that Century has needed for a while. I look forward to seeing my new hometown grow up to its potential.

haha, i like the pic you used of Buz on the “other top stories” page, him giving a look like judge, jury, and executioner, like whomever applies for the job will hafta get thru him, lol. :D

WOW! This is the never ending story. How can we add another person to the payroll when we are broke? We need to remove the bad before we add anyone else. This is crazy no matter how good it sounds or looks if we keep the old administration this will not help at all. Well at least the current administration raised the taxes so they can maintain their current lifestyle after adding another person to the payroll. Maybe they are looking for someone better than them at covering up the misuse of the peoples money. You know so they can continue without as much publicity.

“The salary is listed as negotiable based upon experience…” lol! Century doesn’t have any money to negotiate with. A good place to start would be to trim the staff budget by eliminating a few positions, which do not produce a measurable work product for the town.

why you need a mayor if the city manager is going to management of day-to-day operations,
