Cantonment Railroad Crossing Replacement Ties Up Traffic

September 30, 2019

The replacement of a railroad crossing in Cantonment tied up traffic all weekend.

Crews replaced the crossing on Highway 29 just south of Muscogee Road. One lane of traffic was open in both directions during most of the project, but there were temporary lane closures.

The project is completed.

@ Driver …I did NOT say it wasn’t ever backed up…I just stated that at the times(several) I went through I didn’t see nor hear of long(45+ minutes) standstills. Just goes to show some will never be happy. Sorry you misread/mis interpreted my words…

What a great job, now let’s hire them to complete the work on the rest of Hwy 29 before the year 2030 arrives!

“Traffic was never backed up to the extent others claimed and the work was done very quickly.”

Traffic WAS backed up at times. I went through 6 times over the weekend, and there were long waits 4 times. This went on from Friday night through Sunday night or Monday morning. How can you say it was never backed up? You sat there and watched for 48 hours?

My hats off to the workers who did this job. Traffic was never backed up to the extent others claimed and the work was done very quickly. Maybe this will make a few people happy. Good job railroad workers

What would be the reason for doing this on the weekend in the middle of the day (peak traffic) as opposed to overnight when traffic is very light? Personally I planned my routes accordingly but a few friends sent pictures while waiting well over 30 minutes. Just wondering since a lot of other things seem to be done quick and easy overnight.

All lanes were open and flowing in normal traffic pattern, no delays at 7:50 this morning. Crossing was smoother on the southbound lane. Will check the northbound this afternoon.

Im on my 5th tire busted due to these nasty done roads on hwy 29 if i knew how to get compensated for my loss due to poor workmanship i would. and now they complete these tracks and again poor work drive over it and see if thats complete that is definitely poor work someone needs to hire a new engineer or boss someone with better experience.

The people who managed to get in wrecks in the middle of all this on Saturday did not help things.

This repair was much needed. One rail would completely pop up. So dangerous. Hopefully traffic goes back to normal today. It was congested all weekend but we just left early to plan accordingly.
