The PNJ, Other Daily Printed Papers From Pensacola To Tallahassee To Have One Owner

August 6, 2019

The daily printed newspapers from Pensacola to Tallahassee will have the same owner under a media merger announced Monday.

New Media Investment Group has reached a $1.4 billion merger agreement with Gannett for cash and stock.

Gannett owns the Pensacola News Journal and Tallahassee Democrat, while New Media owns the Northwest Florida Daily News (Fort Walton Beach) and Panama City News Herald.

Gatehouse also owns multiple weeklies in the Panhandle — The Apalachicola Times, Homes County Advertiser ( Bonifay), Washington County News (Chipley), The Destin Log, Santa Rosa’s Press Gazette (Milton), The Star (Port St. Joe), and the Walson Sun (Santa Rosa Beach).

Editor’s Note: NorthEscambia.com remains locally owned and operated.

@Melanie Ronis, unfortunately, every major news organization in the United States is a liberal platform today. They recognized the importance of media long ago and started buying out all the printed newspapers and television news stations and greed let it happen.

PNJ is crap. I have called numerous times now to have them STOP delivering the paper since I no longer want it nor will I pay for it. They keep littering my yard with their newspaper that I no longer want. They will not stop throwing but keep sending me a bill which I do not pay. . My Dad worked for the news Journal for over 50 years starting as a paper boy and moved up the ranks until he was in charge of Production. That was back in the 70’s and 80’s and he was pushed out by upper management in the early 90’s when they started downsizing the staff and getting rid of all the good employees. And here we are today with a paper that is not worth the paper it is printed on. They also are LIBERALS / DEMOCRAPS and not fair at all on what they report, especially Andy Marlett (sp) and his stupid cartoons he draws up which shows he is bias as heck. We do not need the PNJ to tell us what is going on in the Political world and try to influence our thinking. We are all smart enough to think for ourselves, Thank you very much !

I hope the clean house at PNJ. It’s nothing but a tool for the left. They don’t even hide it anymore. They aren’t journalists…. They’re activists. Plus they are doing terrible and it’s obvious.

    Good riddance!

    To Ponderosa Hill:

As Ron White said, “We are headed to the scene of the crash. I bet we beat the paramedics there by 30 minutes”.

I don’t need a paper to live a simple drama in my life. The newspaper is now like the pony Express…except…the pony Express evolved and wasn’t full of poop

The papers & TV news have done it to themselves. Trying to mind
control the great unwashed. Improper topics and reporting of very
little real news and regurgitating a slanted take whether truth is revealed
or not . Integrity is gone and entertainment is the golden rule chasing
the ratings. Sixty years ago I delivered ( paper-boy ) the PNJ and the
cost was $3.30 per mo. that’s about 10 cent a day and I got a cut of it
( very small ) for delivering at my expense of time and collecting. A small
amount of Fox ( ratings driven ) and reading North Escambia.com. daily is
about it for me ! The USA has drastically changed over the last 30 years !
The big question is where are we heading ? Anybody ?

    *about my former comment*

Dear readers, don’t type into a comment section and hold a debate at the same time…lol.
    PJC should have been PNJ.

The comics are the most intelligent section of the PJC…the rest of the leftist rag isn’t fit to line a bird cage.

They still print papers? Who knew.

  13. tg on August 6th, 2019 9:01 am

Northescambia.com is the only local news fit to print. Thanks William for current reporting.

  14. Hoosier Daddy on August 6th, 2019 8:41 am

Thanks William….North Escambia has current local news. If you notice the price of the PNJ is exorbitant, over $700 per year. There are a lot of travelogue stories and redundant articles in different sections of the paper, with little local interest. The late J. Earl Bowden would not be happy with his old love. I hope the Panama City News-Herald can bring the quality of the PNJ to a higher standard.

I noticed in this mornings’ (Tuesday) PNJ the story on the “upcoming” series “Serengeti. The series started Sunday, two days ago.

  15. Bob on August 6th, 2019 8:38 am

    And PNJ will still sux.

  16. Phil on August 6th, 2019 8:20 am

Maybe you could get your old job back Wilber! Worthless used up PNJ tool!

  17. David on August 6th, 2019 7:54 am

I wonder if this means we might finally get a paper with up to date info and not 2 day old news? It has got be better then what it currently is. Not even worth being a “mullet wrapper” for last several years.

If there is anyone still working at the PNJ, you’d better get your resume up to date.
