‘Manic’ Woman Hit Ransom Middle School Dean With Her Vehicle In Car Rider Line, ECSO Says

August 17, 2019

A “manic” woman hit the Ransom Middle School dean with her vehicle in a car rider line as about 100 students waited nearby, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Christina Cranford-Denham, age 41 of Cantonment was charged with first degree felony aggravated battery on a school official. She was released from jail on a $50,000 bond.

The school resource officer (SRO) reported that she observed Cranford-Denham swerve around the dean striking him on the arm as he was directing traffic in the car rider line after school Thursday.

The deputy wrote her report that when she stopped Cranford-Denham’s Buick Enclave, she “appeared manic and possibly under the influence of narcotics”. She refused commands to park and exit the vehicle, the arrest report states. The SRO reported that she opened the driver’s side door, unbuckled her seat belt, and removed her from the vehicle.  The deputy said as she attempted to handcuff Cranford-Denham, she “bent over while acting erratic” before walking backwards to her  patrol vehicle.

The Ransom Middle School dean told deputies that he attempted to stop Cranford-Denham from cutting into parking lot traffic at which time he was hit. He refused medical treatment.

According to the arrest report, the incident occurred during a torrential rainstorm as about 100 students were standing under an awning just a few feet away from where the dean was hit by the vehicle.

Cranford-Denham was allowed to call someone to pick up her children. She was trespassed warned from the Ransom campus.

Despite anyone’s interactions with this parent, I feel so horrible for her child. Please educate your children that if they witnessed this, it is NOT the fault or embarrassment of the child. Middle school is hard enough as it is, let’s please as a community try to make it better for the child.

I want to talk about Ransom’s faculty and staff. Dean Baird kept the situation under control. We are all here to do a job and that does not include being hit by cars! She blew by 200 cars waiting in car line. She was stopped because she wasn’t following procedure. She was belligerent and asked to stop a second time by Dean Baird. She hit him with her car. Thank you Mr. Baird. I hope your arm is feeling better.
This Cranford-Denham person is a MENACE. Thank you to the Ransom staff for keeping her away from my children when I’m not around.

I see this woman walking up and down 97A at Kingsfield all the time! She is always twirling around in the road, walking backwards and crossing diagonally, going as slow as possible in the middle of oncoming traffic. It’s a wonder really that SHE hasn’t been hit with a car. This woman needs some help.

@Jamie, it would seem to me that at 15 years of age you might be able to put a better sentence together than you did. Actually, it would be three or more depending on how well you break it down. But to the subject at hand, this woman got stupid in a line of traffic with kids walking around. She hit someone through her irrational behavior and needs to learn from it. That’s why she’s in trouble. Play stupid games, get stupid prizes. It’s sometimes called be an adult. You’ll learn this some day.

  8. No excuse on August 17th, 2019 9:17 pm

Jaimie there is absolutely no excuse for this woman’s actions! Even if it was unintentional as you imply, her behavior afterwards indicates otherwise. This faculty member was doing his job (out in a storm) to ensure the safety of students! She disregarded his instructions, and her irresponsible behavior could’ve seriously injured or killed someone! Obviously she has a child that attends the school and I’m sure the readers sympathize with her child, but considering other comments on this story, this sounds like consistent erratic behavior and hopefully she can get some help!

She shouldn’t have gotten out of jail. I’m not excusing what she did, but she really needs help since this seems to be an on-going problem for her. Locking her up at Lakeview would do her a whole lot more good than turning her loose on the public at large.

I couldn’t imagine my mom doing this and then me having to face my peers when I went back to school and all the questions I would be asked about it! Pray that this young child(children) aren’t picked on and judge by the parents actions!

I almost hit her yesterday as she was walking backwards and dancing in the middle of Kingsfield. I honked at her and she just flipped me off. She has also followed a student home in the past. It’s not the first time she has been seen walking down the street in this manner. Next time I will call the cops. It is a safety issue and I would hate for any children to have to witness a potential accident. I do not know how she was not hit yesterday. She was literally walking backwards, swerving, and not looking at oncoming traffic.

I was in the car rider line and saw the whole thing… she was crazy… she almost ran over 3 teachers in the process. And my child was standing close to the step off when she disregarded the Dean’s action to have her stop her vehicle. Had she swerved the wrong way, she would have injured or possibly killed many children. I for one am glad she was arrested for her own Safty and the safety of our children.

I feel bad for her children. Idk the lady or the kids I don’t even go to that school, but when my mother got arrested and it was plastered everywhere and everyone knew I was so embarrassed, and it’s going to be worst for her kids being it happened at there school :( so sad. My prayers go out to the dean, her kids, and this messed up world.

This woman walks in the middle of the road on 97 barefoot wearing headphones. I’ve seen her many times. She believes that she is a modern version of a female karate kid. I’m not surprised to read this. Unfortunately, she has children of age to be embarrassed by her actions. I’m glad the outcome wasn’t worse.
