Locals Strip Hurricane Supplies From Store Shelves

August 30, 2019

While any local impacts from Hurricane Dorian are not yet known, locals have headed to the store looking for supplies.

Several local stores were nearly out of hurricane supplies like bottled water on Thursday afternoon.

Escambia County officials are encouraging residents to be prepared for Dorian — or any story — with an emergency supply kit that will last at least three days. It should contain three days of clothes, nonperishable food, pet food, water and a battery operated radio and flashlight with extra batteries. Also include a first-aid kit with items such as gloves, adhesive bandages and prescription medications. Find a printable disaster shopping list here.

I’m so glad everyone here is prepared 100% of the time but not everyone is and there’s nothing wrong with making sure you have what you need. Whether now or a week before a storm. Have some compassion.

I think the return policy on consumable products needs to be re-evaluated. Yes, people have no problem buying more than they could ever need when they know they can bring it back for full refund a couple of days later.

Personally I don’t want any products that have been in the hands of unknown entities for a number of reasons.

As usual the panic mode kicks in. The sky is falling folks, better strip the shelves so nobody else can have anything for a few weeks. Nice job knee-jerks.

Just came from there. Must have restocked, there was plenty of water. Two large pallets in the center lane when you enter the grocery side.

Everyone needs to be prepared. Buy your water and other things ahead of time and as you use them just replenish. I have done this for years and the only thing I have to buy at the last minute is nothing.

“newbies” Typical. When you live here….. you should always be ready; not wait till Jim shows up on your front yard.

Let us be the the community that shares with our neighbors in need if they weren’t able to get their minimal supplies for the first 72 hours. If we are blessed to avoid a direct hit, let’s also be the community that donates our unneeded supplies to storm survivors elsewhere.
