Cantonment Man Sentenced To Prison For Robbing Same Store Twice

A Cantonment man has been sentenced to prison for robbing the same convenience store twice in 2016.

Napoleon Bonapart Grandison Jr. was sentenced to 15 years in state prison as a releasee reoffender by Circuit Judge Jeff Burns. He will not be eligible for parole.

Grandison entered a plea of guilty to two counts of robbery without a weapon, two counts of battery upon a leo, battery upon a police dog, resisting officer with violence, giving false name or id to law enforcement officer and battery.

On July 3, 2016, Grandison robbed a Circle K on Mobile Highway. He entered the store wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, told the clerk he had a gun and demanded money. He pushed the clerk down, punched him in his side and grabbed the cash register containing about $50. He fell and dropped the cash register on his way out of the store before fleeting on a bicycle. A K-9 track led to a bicycle and sweatshirt with Grandison’s DNA.

Grandison robbed the same store on October 16, 2016. He demanded money from the clerk, holding his hand under his shirt as if he had a gun. He grabbed $92 from the register before fleeing. When deputies caught up with him a short distance away, he allegedly pushed two deputies off him as they attempted to detain him. He was also accused of kicking and striking a third deputy and physically placing his arm around the neck of and choking Escambia County K-9 Alek. Deputies recovered $84 when Grandison was apprehended.

Grandison has an extensive history of prior convictions including convictions for two counts of robbery without a weapon, battery upon a law enforcement officer, two counts of resisting officer with violence, multiple counts of resisting officer without violence, three counts of burglary, grand theft, battery, three counts of possessing a controlled substance with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, four counts of petit theft and several other convictions.
