Cantonment Convicted Felon Charged With Battery, Theft After Target Shoplifting Attempt

August 7, 2019

A Cantonment man with a long list of prior convictions was charged with battery on a Target employee as he allegedly shoplifted several items.

John Lydell Satterwhite, age 50 of Cantonment, was charged with felony battery, second degree petit theft third or subsequent offense and resisting a merchant in the recovery of stolen property for the incident at the Target on Nine Mile Road. He was released on an $11,000 bond.

Satterwhite allegedly purchased an item in the electronics section of the store and place numerous other items in the bag as he moved around the store, including a Timex watch ($42.99), short pants ($19.99) sunglasses ($24.99) and cordless inflator ($67.99). His actions were caught on video, a Target loss prevention officer told the Sheriff’s Office.

Satterwhite was approached by the loss prevention officer that attempted to detain him as he exited the store without paying for the items, but he dropped the plastic bag and attempted to run out of the store. Satterwhite then used his hands to push the Target employee and exit the store, an arrest report states.

Satterwhite has 13 felony and 16 misdemeanor convictions in Florida for numerous charges, including multiple grand theft and petit theft charges, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

My exhusband. My children’s father. it’s more sad and an embarrassment for them. He has problems, to also add the system has failed. I only pray he changes before it’s too late. I pray too that people now knowing his behavior, can see a change. Then know it’s all Glory to God. On his own he is so lost as many of us are or have been.

    Kleptomania

Kleptomania, or compulsive stealing, is a common cause of theft that many forget about. This type of stealing is about a psychological compulsion instead of a desire to profit or gain something material or financial.

Hopefully, Satterwhite will pursue help through cognitive behavioral therapy and a psychological evaluation while serving a prison sentence.

This type of behavior can be turned around if properly treated.

The system has failed him! For the amount of times he has been arrested and the VOP’s on his record, he should still be in jail. He basically keeps getting away with his crimes with no real punishment from the courts. Let him spend a little more time in jail or prison and maybe his behavior will start to change, at least long enough to get off the drugs.

What happened to the habitual offender law? It’s still in effect, but there is no room in jail/prisons to put these people. An addition to the Road Camp on Hwy 297A would be great. Why should habitual offenders as this dude sit in air conditioned rooms all day playing cards or sleeping? Put a majority of them out on the road crews to sweat and wish they were back at home. A few times of spending a year working the outdoors crew MAY help some get better with their life.

There are educational programs at the Road Camp to help criminals move forward in life and get straight with God if they want to.

Most stores don’t even try to stop shoplifters anymore. Glad to see Target being proactive. We have to get this country back to the correct way of doing things.its getting out of control.

What happened with the habitual offender law with this guy? 13 felony and 16 misdemeanor convictions seems like a prime candidate to me.

really folks, after just shy of 30 combined convictions it should be rather obvious by now this ole boy can’t keep his hands to himself. he needs to loose them.
