Attorney Threatens To Sue Century Over Past Due Consultant’s Bill

August 22, 2019

An attorney for a consulting company is threatening to take further action against the Town of Century if they don’t pay up on a $12,562.42 past due bill.

Town officials have said they don’t owe the money to City Services, Inc. (CSI) of Thomasville, Georgia, because the town wanted out of their contract with the natural gas consultant.

According to a invoice provided by Tallahassee attorney Ausley McMullen on behalf of City Services, the town was last current in August 2018 and then fell behind, making two payments on four month’s billings. The town last made a payment on December 31, 2018, leaving a balance of $3,638.27.

The attorney said in a letter to Mayor Henry Hawkins that Century has breached its agreement with CSI, which was billing the town $1,200 a month.

McMullen said CSI had authorized “appropriate steps to protects its interests, including filing a lawsuit seeking damages, interest, attorneys’ fees and court costs.”

“Please govern yourself accordingly,” McMullen wrote.

City Services has continued to bill the town and accrue finance charges. So far, the town has been charged $562.42 in late fees on the bill.

It’s interesting that when people in Century were allowed to have all the chickens and goats and other farm animals on their property the town seemed better organized.
Maybe the City Government should have focused on keeping their own ducks in a row instead of worrying about the residents ducks?

The Town of Century has a long tradition of not paying its bills. The consulting firm and their attorney are both aware of that.

I have NEVER heard of such a town in my whole long life. Maybe there IS no one in Century that knows how to run a town/government. I do not know how either, so I would NOT do it. However, I think that upright kids that were truly educated could do a better job. Why not let them? However. turning them over to Flomaton seems like a good idea. But. I doubt Flomaton would want them or could afford them. Seems that very few in Century even work. SO, they do not really have a large enough tax base. How can they run a town with not enough money or knowledge on how to spend what they DO have? I think some people maybe want to be “big shots,” but do not want to get the education or study on their own to learn how.. They just want to feel important??? But, isn’t that human nature? “Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” So sad.

I am so sick and tired of this horrible mess. Wake up people this did not just happen in two years. I remember several years back when the Town of Century was a very prosperous small town. Where has the towns money gone or should I say the peoples money go. Century residents come together and quit fighting each other and get to the bottom of this. Century residents need to know

Y’all I think you should just move the state line and make century part of Flomaton Alabama. Because it is quite obviously that state of Florida doesn’t give a crap about the incompetence government Representatives have shown. And who anybody who is owed money stand in line

  9. Teresa on August 22nd, 2019 11:14 am

It will just become a part of Molino Cantonment or Pensacola. Heck maybe they should even just move the state line and let it become part of Flomaton Alabama. Because as long as this has been going on apparently Florida doesn’t give a crap about a hole in the wall town

Wow!! I cannot believe that no legal action has been taken against the council members or its mayors for there horrendous incompetent. It’s all over the news that century is in debt up to their ears. They can’t pay anybody. It’s just a matter of time before Century.
    no longer exist.

Folks, Century needs to fold and let the county take over.. what a joke! But it does make for funny news daily.

Fed up with this town’s corruption and lack of responsibility! WE need to stop gripping and take action. I know many letters have been written to the St. Attorneys office and these things take time, but this is outrageous! The Council has wasted, lost or possibly stollen your money and continue to do so on a daily basis. I don’t live within city limits but I’ll help anyone that has the backbone to take these people out of office. Call the State Attorneys office and ask what needs to be done. Y’all are more than capable of taking back Century. Stand up y’all!!

  17. Niknak50 on August 22nd, 2019 8:12 am

I don’t mean this in a derogatory way, but looking at the history of the mayor and councils actions, it’s quite apparent the’re just plain stupid.

  18. just sayin on August 22nd, 2019 7:47 am

Get to the end of the line CSI and wait your turn for money.

“Because the town WANTED out of their CONTRACT.” First of all it is a CONTRACT. That is a legal binding agreement. But we must remember LEGAL does not apply to Century officials. How do they do it? Maybe the reason they choose a company in Ga. was because no one around this area would dare risk credit with the town of Century. CSI please be patient and Century will have little meeting and vote to pay you. Oh by the way it will likely be in the amount $1.50 a month.

Watching the Town of Century is like watching a man die from lung cancer and refusing all medical treatment. It is obvious by now, Century is on Hospice care. It’s only a matter of time. What a slow and long agonizing death of a historic town. Arrogance, pride, ignorance and incompetence. Did I miss anything?

  22. Bewildered on August 22nd, 2019 4:32 am

This can’t possibly be true. How many consultants do they have on their payroll to keep this comedy show alive? Maybe these Gas consultants told them how to loose half of the natural gas they bought.

  23. resident on August 22nd, 2019 1:54 am

The town attorney should have cleared this up after the Mayor showed it to the council..right?
