Previous story:
An active shooter situation inside an Escambia County grocery store came to an end Thursday afternoon when the suspect was shot by an Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy.
The man walked into the Grocery Advantage on Lillian Highway at New Warrington Road with a handgun and then opened fire, according to Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan. He said the suspect was the only person injured; no civilians or deputies were hurt.
Chief Deputy Chip Simmons said three deputies were on scene quickly, and “they started to pursue the gunman through the store”. He said the suspect ran into the back warehouse area of the store and was hiding behind boxes of produce.
“The deputies challenged him there. He produced a firearm, and he was shot,” Simmons said. He described the gun as a small caliber handgun.
Morgan said the suspect’s motive is not known at this time. His name has not been released.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the officer involved shooting.

Can anybody help me understand what did the deputy mean when he challenge the man . Why not tell him that the the dog was gonna be let loose on him
@Humdinger – Exactly what I thought yesterday.
@Concerned Citizen
I too am disappointed the tax payers are stuck helping a dirt bag recuperate however, I’m glad the responding LEOs won’t have a death on their conscience for the remainder of their lives.
And just a friendly reminder – If you wake up in the morning and decide to shoot someone, always start with yourself.
Go escambia sheriff’s
You aim for the chest, concerned citizen… highest chance for success. If i hit you in the chest, you are going down.
Great job Leos ! Pray for your safety every day in this crazy place we live in.
Glad no one in the store was harmed and that our Officers are safe.
What a job they have anymore !!
..Great job LEO’s…let’s see if this one makes GMA..YOU GUYS ARE DOING A GREAT JOB…
Great Job Deputy. we don’t need this crap down here, If more of them are shot before they can shoot or kill others then the rest of the idiots will think twice about copying them.
So glad no one was hurt. This could have turned out to be a different story. Hats off to the Deputies. Great job!!
Thank you to our ECSO officers my children and I shop there all the time, thank you for keeping the shoppers, employees, and surrounding areas safe yet again ❤️
@ concerned citizen. You have no earthly idea what you are talking about. The guy was hit three times two in the chest and one in the leg. I was one of the deputies on scene of the shooting. I take it that you think you know everything about shooting someone. Well guess again when you are going after someone armed and has a good potential of ambushing you as you look for him, it raises your adrenaline to the point where if you are a perfect shot it drops in half. Now if you have a better solution ALL law enforcement agencies are hiring and I’m sure you put your application in. Better yet why don’t you volunteer and request to come train law enforcement and give us some of your expertise and experience. I’m sure you are full of it or full of something else. Thanks for your lack of advice
Concerned Citizen:
Other than sniper training a head shot is never taught in any training,
Center mass or the torso / chest area is the most effective shot placement.
Larger target is the better target. Someones noggin is a small area to be effective.
Sounds more like he wanted suicide by cop than being an active shooter. He could’ve shot anyone in the store but didn’t. Seems all he wanted was for police to come shoot him. Calling this an active shooter gets Morgan more press time and that’s what’s most important, isn’t it?
To the guy talking about “perfecting the kill shot”. Static range time and a real gun fight aren’t equivalent. You wouldn’t do much better. Police aren’t trained to shoot to kill, they’re trained to stop a threat. They did great in this scenario as there was no loss of life and no other casualties besides the shooter. The shooter’s going to face justice, that’s one of the best possible outcomes.
Officers needs some more days at the range, must Perfect the kill shot. Always aim small and aim for the head. Now our tax dollars have to provide for this scum.
These active shooters need to be shot dead.
great…one recovering at tax payer expense…..
Great job!!
Unbelievable this keeps happening! Great Job Law Enfircement! So thankful there were no victims!
Our ECSO Deputies are the Best-Thanks to you all for your service
Pull a gun on a cop. Get shot. Pretty elementary.
GREAT job LEO’s!
