@ shaking my head— “Yes, he was speeding according to witnesses but that doesn’t excuse turning into the path of an oncoming vehicle.” I can’t confirm, but I believe that the woman had a green turn arrow, & therefore the right of way, so not her fault. I think that the speeder was trying to beat the light& failed. That is my opinion, from reading what witnesses thought happened.
@ shaking my head….I really think you completely missed the sarcastic tone used in the comments below about the traffic lights. Yes, it is the drivers at the end of the day and so many in such a hurry and/or distracted in some way. Boy, oh boy, did that get your shorts torqued though. Lol
We don’t need more traffic signals anywhere on 297A. It’s not the intersections that are the problem….IT’S THE DRIVERS!
This entire area around here including Pine Forest and Nine Mile are absolute nightmares. It’s not the construction that’s the problem. It’s the drivers.
Driver was killed on Pine Forest about 5 months ago. Speed was the factor and he lost control.
Another driver on 297A lost control and hit a utility pole. Odds are they were either DWI or looking at their phone.
Last month, a woman turned left at the caution light at 97 in front of another vehicle causing an accident. Wasn’t the intersections’ fault. It was hers. She turned into the path of another vehicle.
A couple weeks ago, an 81 year old woman turned into the path of an oncoming vehicle on Pine Forest Road. 2 People killed. Yes, he was speeding according to witnesses but that doesn’t excuse turning into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
Everyone screams for a new red lights or stop signs every time there is an accident, but that’s not the problem. The problem is the drivers!
It was an ugly scene. An older model pickup truck was being manned by two deputy units. About 2 blocks North of this intersection on Hwy 297A. Not sure if this guy was the cause of the accident, or a totally different case going on.
With the appearance of the vehicles involved, I am very surprised that people escaped injury.
Thanks to Kristi Barbour for the photos and article.
Roundabouts instead of traffic lights. Traffic flows smoothly, every vehicle turns right to exit and drivers only have to look to the left for oncoming cars. Drove through these every day to work.in LA.
Glad everyone was okay.
But I do agree with the sarcasm regarding traffic signals.
It’s not the traffic lights, it’s not the roads, it’s not the trees, that suddenly jump out at you, or the telephone poles that waited to pounce on you. IT’S THE DRIVERS!! I take 297A about four out of seven days a week. Even when it was a four way stop, there were accidents. People running the stop sign. I can remember when it was only two stop signs. And there were still accidents. So, please stop blaming the roads, the traffic lights, the trees, mail boxes, telephone poles. It’s plain and simple. Lack of attention of the drivers.
It’s good to see that the new intersection and traffic lights are helping to prevent wrecks here. There should be lights at every intersection.
They need a traffic lig………………oh never mind.
If only they would put a red light there!!!! That would solve all the accidents at this intersection.
…1.4 million dollars for turn lanes in all directions , good visibility in all directions and a stop light…a little planning ahead of time and an early departure will eliminate a lot of a accidents caused by rushing thru these intersections…slow down and enjoy the journey..
