The Goat Taken Into Custody By Deputies In Century Is Back Home

July 24, 2019

The goat taken into custody by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office after a standoff near a Century grocery store has been reunited with his family.

Deputies were called to the area of the Food Giant on North Century Boulevard about 8:45 p.m. July 12 due to the goat on the run. A witness said the goat and deputies ended up in a standoff before the ECSO’s livestock officer responded and roped the goat about two hours later.

We’re told the goat is named “Bandit”.

The owner claimed what the Sheriff’s Office described as a “brown goat with horns and a beard” after the story was posted on NorthEscambia.com.

I was looking for articles about the Andy Griffith “Loaded Goat” episode and bumped into this one. This one may not be what I was looking for but it stars a helluva handsome goat. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one with a more beautiful beard. And I’m glad this story had a happy ending.

His name might explain why Food Giant didn’t want him around. Sure did enjoy this story.

He was sweet, he kept coming and laying under by the steps and looking out waiting for his owner, I suppose.

He was running up and down the road and in the street, we coaxed him into the yard but he climbed the fence, So we couldn’t hold him and look for the owners.

I was quite a bit of excitement for several hours, people were riding by telling us to ROPE him, we told them go ahead!

it was a bit like keystone cops he had us all running around for several hours actually.

Thanks to the ECSO, we had him corralled, yet he was exhausted.

Just prior to the wranglers arriving he stood up, stretched and we all knew he had caught his second, well fifth wind.

The goat roper was a pro. “Bandit” loudly protested but we are pleased with the out come

Thank you for this story NE.

I am happy he made it back home.

Tales from Mayberry AKA Century. :)

Glad he’s home. This reminds me of an old Andy Griffith episode about “the loaded goat” named Jimmy, who got loose in town and they thought ate some dynamite.

the saga of Bandit comes to a close. quite a nice specimen, definitely too old to butcher, so i’d guess he will get to live out his natural lifespan, good for him. :)
