Molino Man Accused Of Capital Sexual Assault Of Young Girl, Possibly Other Victims

July 17, 2019

A 77-year old Molino man has been accused of sexually molesting a young girl over the course of several years, and prosecutors say there may be additional victims.

Daniel Durwood Edmonson, age 77 of 461 Molino Road, was charged with sexual battery on a victim under 12-years old and lewd and lascivious molestation on a victim under age 12.

“Capital sexual battery carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison if convicted,” Assistant State Attorney Greg Marcille said. “All of the charges are for one victim. As the investigation continues, there may be additional charges filed for that victim or other individuals.”

The  female victim told investigators that Edmonson had molested her for nine years at his residence, when she was between the ages of 5 and 12. At times, he would allegedly give the child liquid Benadryl so she would fall asleep early, telling her it was for mosquito bites, before molesting her.

At least two additional victims may have been identified, according to an arrest report, including one that is now married with children of her own.

I have known this man and his family my entire life. He is one of the most genuine, caring, trustworthy people I’ve ever know . I am shocked at the charges and would not believe them unless he directly looked me in the eye and confessed to them. He is married with children and grandchildren as well as other family and whether he did these things or not THEY did not do them and my heart breaks for them. Just to be accused of such a crime will haunt him forever whether he did it or not. Sex crimes are horrendous and against children I believe are the worst of the worst but I have known people to fabricate stories to ruin someone, gain attention, justify their bad reputations..I am not saying this is the case I’m just stating that simply because someone is accused of something doesn’t make them guilty. And judging before hearing all the facts is ignorant. I pray for his family and for him whether he is guilty or innocent because it’s a horrible situation all around.

Please people LEARN TO SPELL before you comment!!! Improper grammar makes you look illiterate!!

If this man committed these crimes may he suffer a slow agonizing death.. this is disgusting!!!

People, what are you doing? This man has a wife, children, grandchildren and Brothers and sisters reading all this stuff. Our judicial system says innocent until proven guilty. He is in jail but that doesn’t prove he is guilty, he will have his day in a court of justice and will more than likely have a trial by the justice system. That is the way our Country governs. In the mean time he is in jail and if proven guilty by the laws of this state he will spend the rest of his life in prison. So many people jump on the band wagon assuming ones guilty just because of accusation made against him. Let the judicial system do their job. And keep your nasty comments to your self.

If something isn’t said when it happens or while it is going on, it can’t be proven or substantiated…unless there are pictures or videos. When someone waits, it makes people skeptical–of both. There isn’t any proof and it’s his word against hers. I too was molested as a child and was threatened if I said anything. Now that I’m an adult, married and have children of my own, I would never say anything. Not only would it cast suspicion on me and make people say mean things like they do on here, it would ruin my whole family’s relationship with each other. I’m all about charging people if they’ve done something wrong, but there also has to be a way to prove the charges so there isn’t any doubt.

I didn’t tell my family until I was 18 years old. I was abused from age 3 to 13, where in my abuser told me if I said something to my parents I would be the one to get in trouble. I spent all of my youth hiding a disgusting, gray-haired man’s sins because I was threatened and made to believe the abuse was my own fault.
To those that say “it’s too late now” – May your daughters and granddaughters never know the torture or hell that is sexual abuse.
To those that say “he’s such a good man, this has to be a lie” – Even the most Godly men have secrets and sins.

I pray for this man’s victims and hope they’re able to get the justice they deserve.

Constitution, FYI. the Judicial system of this country was patterned after Scripture!

  7. Constitution on July 17th, 2019 11:19 pm

Thank goodness the bible isn’t the law of the USA.

Innocent until proven guilty. People remember that he has a family. He has a wife, children and grandchildren that are reading all the comments that are posted. Please remember this before you post your comments. What would you do if it was your family member in this situation just something to think about. God be with this family.

I believe its guilty or not guilty, *Its not innocent*. Its hard to prove these cases, that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

Okay people, as a survivor of repeated childhood sexual abuse, I can tell you that my molester repeated told me that if I said anything to anyone about his abuse, that he would kill my Mother/Siblings. I believe bed him and didn’t say a word until I was 31 years old. Many children who are being abused, don’t speak up because of fear. They wait until they’re older and come to terms with it and decide either to stay silent forever or speak up. Don’t judge this young lady until you’ve walked in her shoes. I’ll be praying for this young lady and her family

  11. chris on July 17th, 2019 7:51 pm

The Bible says to judge with righteous judgement. Get your facts straight before you start pretending to know Scripture.

  12. Abusedmyself on July 17th, 2019 7:11 pm

99.9 % of the time a sexual abuser is some you know and trust. Therefore; a child will normally never tell anyone. Unless you have been a victim your self, don’t judge, because you seriously have no idea.

Why wait all these years? It doesn’t matter your scared of what plp will think or say and when you become a woman with children of your own you think and watch them…..so mrs .bartender it does not matter how old you are. That’s just the reason girls dont speak beacuse of plp like you , and they are scared that comment will be made….I guess you dont have a daughter?

  14. Frank on July 17th, 2019 3:48 pm

Just a note… If someone does not speak up, more victims will fall to such a person.

  15. Tabby on July 17th, 2019 3:06 pm

    @Sherry Hogue
Where does God say not to judge ? I think you are referring to the verse, “Judge not lest you be judged”, which means that you will be judged by the same measurements you judge with. Funny how a vast amount of people think it means God says not to judge. People should read the Word more and follow Jesus.

  16. Sherry Hogue on July 17th, 2019 2:41 pm

Until he is found guilty he should not be judged!! His family’s name is all over the internet and there has not been a judge or jury that has determined if he is guilty or innocent! There was a case like this in Alabama last year, the man was found innocent!! In some people’s eyes he was guilty to begin with!! The Good Lord says not to judge!! Sink this thought!!

  17. anne 1of2 on July 17th, 2019 12:58 pm

When Capital punishment (within the year) becomes the only punishment, this crime will stop.

  18. Steph on July 17th, 2019 12:55 pm

@teebug….you are crazy if you think a man in his 70″s would not do this. And it did not say how old the girl is now so this could have started 15 years ago. I have had an 80 year old man corner me while clearing his house. He should spend the rest of his life in prison then eternity in hell if he did this. And if he is guilty the she will probaly not be the only victim….there will be more.

  19. Bartender on July 17th, 2019 12:31 pm

I lived in molino all my life an that’s so hard for me to belive.i hope for his wife an his kids it’s not true.alot of girls get mad an make up stuff an I hope an pray that’s what happen.god be with his wife an kids.why do kids wait for years to tell an why not say something when it’s going on.

  20. Jksmith on July 17th, 2019 12:13 pm

@ tee bug. Age has nothing to do with perversion. Although he is 77 now, he’s been accused of doing this some years back. If you think because a person is incapable of this type crime because hy are elderly, you are being misguided by your naive nature.

  21. Laura on July 17th, 2019 11:43 am

    Send him Alabama, castrate him!!
Or bring back stoning on the courthouse steps!

  22. Tee bug on July 17th, 2019 10:53 am

I am finding this very hard to believe this just can’t be true for Pete’s sake he is in his 70’s yea I don’t believe this for one minute

  23. Joe on July 17th, 2019 10:25 am

If this is true, he should be executed.

Parents/guardians…. know your kids where ’bouts all the time…. Not everyone is as nice as you might think or others think they are…

You certainly deserve any punishment you receive if found guilty Mr. Edmonson. Shame on you.

  26. Sims on July 17th, 2019 8:07 am

Glad girls are speaking up , this is horrible and something they have to live with. This man is sick I’m sure he will be taken care of in prison. There are a couple more in molino that need to be were this man is at….
