FDLE Says There May Be More Victims Of Deputy Charged With Child Sex Crimes

July 30, 2019

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says there may be additional victims of an Escambia County deputy arrested Friday for child sexual battery.

FDLE arrested Jerome Bernard Zaid, 33, of Pensacola, on a capital felony charge of battery of a child and sexual battery of a child. At the time of his arrest, Zaid was employed as a deputy with Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, but the agency said he is being terminated.

Agents believe Zaid victimized at least two children under the age of six, both of whom Zaid had frequent contact with, according to FDLE.

If convicted on the capital charge, he faces a mandatory life sentence.

An arrest warrant affidavit details the allegations against Zaid. It provides details on multiple instances in which he is alleged to have urinated into the mouth of a young girl between October 2017 and July 2019. The girl is now 5-years old.

Anyone with any information about Zaid is asked to call the FDLE Pensacola Regional Operations Center at (850) 595-2100. He remains in the Escambia County Jail without bond.

    This is the worst case I ever seen. What disturb me the most is the fact that this is an official, one who is to uphold the law. This is proof that their psychology test don’t mean anything. That badge is the most important thing in the world in my opinion and how you could take that for granted is crazy to offend a child. Truthfully, a trial is not needed. Its time to go back to public hanging. There is no fear in this country. There is no reverence for God in whom we say we trust. No reverence no respect for human life and sadly this is where we are at.

    @guilty until proven

    Lie detectors aren’t effective in court. There is a margin of error.

    @Teresa…yes actually I do know what the children go through who have been through the questions and the trauma of sexual assault by an adult. I have lived with the trauma for 50+ years since I’m a survivor. I’m also a survivor of an adult trying to pin assault on another adult out of spite and trying to use a child to do it. That isn’t fun either. Both leave scars but this story just doesnt add up. I dont defend child molesters. I’m just saying I pray that the evidence they have in this case is not based on just a mothers word and that the child is old enough to know the difference between fact and make believe. Its frightening how many cases there are where the mother has had someone put in prison for a crime like this when the person was innocent. Lives lost and ruined. All I’m saying is let’s see what happens in court.

    Guilty till proven do you know the questions and trauma the children go thru to make sure their testimony is true…unless you are with this thing 24/7 and can honestly say he’s never did anything to a child..society these days everyone thinks they can do what hell want to and get away with it…innocent children are being abused neglected and killed and the guilty get away with it…

    This does sound like the typical case of a disgruntled ex using kids and mind games to get back at this gentleman. In the state of Florida, in cases of child molestation, there doesn’t need to be any actual physical evidence or physician statements. The only thing needed to charge and convict is a parent (usually the mother) saying something happened. The parent can then get their child to say just about anything to back it up. I’m not saying it happens all the time but it does happen. How about a lie detector test for the adult that reported the alleged assaults.

    I don’t care what anyone says this man did not do this he is one of the most kindest men there is and all this is about is a disgruntled old ex who is trying to get back at him and the bad thing is that she is using innocent poor children to help in her dirty work

    If these allegations are true life in prison is not sufficient. Crimes like this should be death.
