Escambia Sheriff’s Office Wrangles Goat After Standoff In Century

July 13, 2019

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office took a goat into custody Friday night after a standoff near a Century grocery store.

Deputies were called to the area of the Food Giant on North Century Boulevard about 8:45 p.m. due to the goat on the run. A witness said the goat and deputies ended up in a standoff.

The ECSO’s livestock officer responded and roped the goat about two hours later.

The Sheriff’s Office will make an effort to reunite the goat with its owners. Lost or abandoned animals are ultimately rehabilitated and then auctioned off to good homes, usually at the ECSO Substation on Highway 29 in Molino.

Anyone that has information about the goat’s owner can call the Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620.

GOOD Work to the ECSO’s livestock officer taking the goat by the horns and wrangling it into custody.
Pleased to see it was moved to safety and will likely get a check up by a vet.

Hope it doesn’t eat any cell phones while in the hoosegow.

Thanks to the Network of LEO and others who worked cooperatively in this case.

Looks like the one on Bogia Rd we almost hit him last week. They had him tied up in the front yard for a while.

Seriously, though. Glad they got him before someone hit him. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I read the article. Hope he jumped fence, and they find his owner.

If you referred to the Livestock Officer as a “Goat Roper” would he be offended? Would that get his goat? The town should put the goat on the town council-he’s real good at butting heads too.He could start each meeting with “Who’s Ya DAAAAAADY”-He’ll fit right in!

Saw him walking on St line rd in front of Funeral Home headed to Food Giant. So the owner most likely lives in one of the houses in front or very near the Funeral Home.

Thanks to our patient ECSO officers and to the competent wranglers who came to save the day, and Ole Billy.

Even Odom’s Bar live band was quiet for a Friday night with the sheriff cars around.

Earlier in the day, travelers were stopping at the Welcome to Florida sign, the newly repainted Century sign, weeded landscape and flying flags taking selfies and also pictures of Ole Billy..

    He may be facebook famous.
Welcome to Florida and Welcome to Century

Ole Billy was getting tired, he had a rough day, freedom isn’t free. Hopefully he is resting and in good hands now.
