Century Calls Emergency Meeting To Discuss Gas Department Funding

July 27, 2019

The Century Town Council has called an emergency meeting for Monday “to discuss gas department funding”.

The town has provided no additional details.

The council recently approved to transfer $5,000 per month from the garbage fund to supplement the gas department’s payroll after the department did not have enough money to make cover paychecks and deposit the required federal taxes. The gas department has also been plagued by losses of well over a half million dollars in recent years.

The emergency meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday in council chambers.

An emergency council meeting was called in October 2018 when the gas department had $33,602 in mostly past due bills but only $674 in the bank.

Century is an excellent example of the “benefits” of Socialism. Socialism is corruption, cronyism and inefficiency of tax payers dollars.

    What has Socialism produced?

    Electricity? No.
    Internet? No.
    Smartphone? No.
    Freedom? No.

They have lost a half million dollars and only have $33k in past due bills. Where did the half million dollars go. The mayor and entire city council should be impeached and put in jail. Some of them know where the money went, since they took it.

WTH is going on with this Town? They know they are under scrutiny. Where is the Director? Has he made an appearance yet to explain the problems? Good grief.
This has been ongoing for quite some time and no one seems to be addressing the problems.
Recall all those that have been elected and fire the ones that have been there for a long time. None are doing their jobs.

Why in the world would anybody go to or stay at Century for employment? That would last one missed paycheck and I’d be gone. Ridiculous!!

A day late and many dollars short. Wonder why it took sooooo long for them to figure out that, “Hey we have a problem here.”

Let’s do some simple math that the accountant sitting at the table, and the accountant in front of the table can’t seem to comprehend; If you bill and collect from the over 50% of the deadbeats that have not been getting billed, you will have plenty of money. A good start would be revealing how many of these people sitting at the table have been recipients of these “Free” utilities.

well WE aren’t on gas and Hawkins and crew raised the garbage rate. We are subsiding the rest

That is what socialism is and what will happen to the country if it goes that route.

    However

WHEN YOU CAN”T PAY THE BILLS YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DECLARE A FINANCIAL EMERGENCY AND REPORT IT TO THE STATE.

Monday is when Mr. Eddy starts, isn’t it?
