Century Man Charged With Theft By Deception
June 27, 2019
Atmore Police have charged a Century man for allegedly accepting money for a home improvement job but never performing the work.
John D. Kline, 48, was charged with felony theft by deception second degree.
According to Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks, Kline entered into an agreement to perform home repairs for a Harris Street resident in May 2018.
“He never returned to the residence to start on the work,” Brooks said. “After repeated attempts by the resident, he did not return the money.”
In February 2019, the victim signed a warrant for Kline’s arrest.

Contractors should be paid “one third”. One third at time of signed contract one third, one third to purchase materials & one third upon completeion of contract.
My sister in law in PA fell for this situation & the contractor barely start the job. Therefore a lot of money lost & brother build himself. Check out contractors info 1st then proceed. Unfortunately some contractors will talk women over. I know from experience.
I cannot stand a fraudster. Glad they caught this guy.
and i…… oop
Looks like a good candidate for Century City Council!
Lesson learned and should be taught over and over again…Never pay before the job is completed, regardless!
